“Outstanding stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

I stayed here for five nights with my husband in late May 2014 and really enjoyed our stay. The outstanding service we received definitely rivals other five star establishments I've stayed at around the world, as do the facilities on offer. I would not hesitate to book here again if we were able to get the same rate we did this time.

Check-in
Having read a few other comments about check-in we had absolutely no problems despite arriving early - we were offered refreshments while we waited and offered use of the spa changing area if we wanted to go to the pool/beach. As it happens the hotel kindly upgraded us to a club/tower room which they let us into ahead of the scheduled check in time.

Rooms
Our room was very well equipped - with an iPod/Phone dock, free wifi, good TV, hair dryer, large bath and separate shower. We were also supplied with numerous complimentary bottles of water and fruit and chocolates daily. The bed was huge and very comfortable. In terms of decor this wasn't exactly to my taste and if I'm honest felt a little tired/dated, although I'm aware the hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment programme. The only minor niggle I had was evening noise, I think from Shades bar 7 floors below our room - Tina Turner songs at midnight do not exactly lull you into a peaceful sleep!

Facilities
The outdoor pool area and gardens were very well tended. We were provided with cold flannels, sorbet and spray bottles to help keep us cool, as well as good quality towels. We preferred the loungers on the lawn which had more umbrellas and never had a problem obtaining one.

The indoor spa area/hammam was also good, although being from the UK I felt I should be outdoors enjoying the sunshine! I also used the gym on one occasion, this was well equipped, although could have done with stronger aircon as daytime exercise was uncomfortably hot.

A particular highlight was the shared speedboat trip we took from the hotel beach, this was an unforgettable experience which I'd urge everyone to try. At £28 per person for over an hour of amazing views of the Palm, Atlantis, Marina and the Burj al Arab we were surprised at the value for money.

In addition I was pleasantly surprised at the temperature controlled swimming pools - the sea felt like a warm bath (attracting marine life such as jellyfish!) but the pools were refreshingly cool.

Food/drinks
Our upgrade included breakfast in the executive lounge, which offered a good selection between 7-11am, afternoon tea and cocktails/canapes between 6-8pm. Given we only paid for bed and breakfast this was very welcome and something I would look to pay for to secure on a future visit. Food and drinks offered were good quality and the waiting staff were really attentive too.

Nearby
We didn't eat at the hotel, the closest restaurant we visited was the Observatory at the Marriott in Dubai marina. There is also a supermarket and pharmacy directly opposite the hotel complex and the marina mall isn't far away by taxi either. The hotel is also very near Skydive Dubai and we were treated to views of people attempting such aerial acrobatics on a frequent basis throughout the day.

Room Tip: The club room/package includes afternoon tea and cocktail/canapes - I'd definitely opt for this...

We have just returned after spending a fantastic 7 nights (24th-31st May) at the Le Royal Meridian, our 1st visit to Dubai since i was in the UAE over 30 years ago when it was a desert, what a change. The Service was absolutely impeccable, nothing was ever too much trouble, plenty of space around the pools for beds, massive big Ice Containers around the pool that you fill buckets from that hang on the back of your sun lounger, as much water as you can drink put in your room morning and night, coffee, biscuits, chocolates (little things mean a lot), fabulous location, the Walk (1-2 miles of Restaurants and Shops) is 50 metres away, the breakfast was everything you could wish for and the staff so attentive, we had a meal in Geales Restaurant and we cannot recommend the place highly enough, The Le Royal Meridian is just an incredible place of the highest standard and we cannot wait to return. What service! Out of this world.

Possibly the most professionally run hotel we have ever had the pleasure of staying in.From start to finish the whole experience was amazing from the perfect surroundings and amazing food to the courteous staff who could not do enough for us.Close to the marina and right on the beach with a selection of restaurants all around you this hotel really is something quite special. We will certainly be returning and I cannot recommend it enough.

Trip Advisor Comment

This was a holiday I booked for my wife's 25th Birthday..

Exterior:
In all honesty when you look at the parade of hotels around the strip/area... This hotel is a bit out dated and one of the smallest.

When you walk into the lobby you do get a better feel, it is nicely designed and workers are very friendly, it's marble everywhere with everyone happy to help.

We arrived at the hotel at 8am as we had a night flight, we got to the reception desk and were told to fill out some paper work whilst we waited as our room was not ready yet. Once we had filled this, they pre-authorised a swipe of our credit card for 1500AED as this is hotel policy, they said they return this at the end of our stay minus any amounts charged to the room.

Now the worst part there was no room available until after 12pm, I had argued this point as our travel agent said they have deals with the hotel that allows check in/out in accordance to our flight times. They said it is only subject to availability and not guaranteed.

They offered the use of the pool, however we were hungry and requested if we could have breakfast, we had paid extra to go on half board basis. Unfortunately this would be chargeable as we had not checked in yet. There was a good amount of people in the same situation as us, we were offered complimentary tea, coffee and light snacks whilst we waited. The hotel staff which took us across said that the check in situation is normal and occurs everyday.

We finally checked into our room at 2.30pm, we had booked a supere duleux room with sea view... The room is absolutely amazing, it is perfect for couples and is modernised to perfection. It has a multimedia input source whereby you can plug in HDMI, 3.5mm jack, av input...

This was over shadowed with constant noise with building work. Currently on the 1st Floor there is a new restaurant being built and the building work is going on until 9th SEPTEMBER 2014... Therefore AVOID the 2nd floor rooms, they are directly above it.

Our room was on the second floor, we had to complain about the noise as it was very bad and were offered an upgrade to the tower building.

The tower building room is amazing, very spacious and with an open bar at certain times of the day but for us the room we chose was perfect, even though it's a bit smaller but the modern feel to it makes it perfect. Therefore decided to stick to the room type we have and request a higher floor.

For the inconvenience we were given a bottle of sparkling wine and brunch at one of the restaurants.

The hotel organised a room on a higher floor which was not available until couple of days into our stay. We agreed this with the hotel and the room was reserved.

However I never expected this to happen from a 5* star hotel... We left for an excursion and were told to have our bags packed, so they can be moved into the new room and to collect our room key on return.

Once we returned and got to the reception to collect our keys our room had not been changed to the allocated room, as the hotel guest extended their stay. This was terrible considering couple of hours before everything had been discussed and agreed. We said surely the principle behind the matter, that the room had been reserved for us 3 days ago and the guest who has extended their stay should be moved, but that was not the case and we were treated as second best guests and told that the guest is a frequent business guest, at that point we knew were we stood.

We were placed on the 4th floor and unfortunately the noise of repairs is continuos and no matter how high you go, it will always be there.

The guest relations manager had been in talks with us and said that he knows everything that has happened up to date. He offered once again a free upgrade to the tower room and we declined this again and requested a refund on the upgrade we paid. We agreed on 75% return of the upgrade cost.

We had finally got to a point whereby we knew this had spoilt our holiday and we just had to crack on and make the best out of what we had.

The next morning we went for breakfast at Ossigeno and ordered omelettes and found a piece of hair in it. We told the restaurant manager and the head chef came out personally to apologise.

You are provided with towel cards and you have a towel hut whereby you exchange your towel cards for towels and have to exchange back once your finished from pool/beach. Otherwise no towels lol.

There is security that patrols around the resort and men are not allowed to be topless and women have to have a top over there bikini's otherwise you are not allowed to enter the building. This is highly annoying if you just came out of the pool or have forgotten something in your room, I questioned the security guard to the reason behind this as we were in a resort and was told it is hotel policy.

Every restaurant has amazing service and the staff are always willing to go the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your food. The room service staff are also very helpful and offer you complimentary fruit and water in the room.

Make sure you put your do not disturb sign on in the room, as we forgot to put this on one day and one of the staff members started knocking 08:50 in the morning. If you like your lye ins, this is a must.

In the room you do have a coffee machine, a very expensive mini bar, iron and ironing board. To add to everything else that went wrong for us we did have a power cut in the room due to using the iron, there was a short circuit in our room but hey it was minor compared to everything else.

Half Board
Half board is not a bad option you get set menu's in each restaurant for Dinner. If you do not want something from the set menu you have 150AED Allowance per person. Sometimes this can work out cheaper but most of time is pricey. You will be charged for water, they will offer it to you and do not mention it is charged.

Breakfast is always the same (Never Changes)... You have your standard breakfast eg: sausages, omelettes, hash browns, beans. The staff are very friendly and the chief comes out to check how your meal is. The restaurant manager is very polite and does offer to make you something different if you want it.

Restaurants:
Al Khaima - Arabic food - serves sheesha
Al Murjan - coffee restaurant
Brassie - open Buffett
Maya - Mexican (amazing food and service)
Ossigeno - Italian
Pizzeria - Italian Pizza
Rhodes Twenty 10 - Europe inspired cuisine
Shades - Sports bar - with bar style food

You can book restaurants with their other hotel Grosvenor house, which has 10x better food and better atmosphere. There is a free shuttle bus which takes you across every 15mins and is well worth it.

The beach: there is no coral therefore you can't snorkel anywhere, we were told by our tour guide (for an excursion) that the coral has been destroyed for building purposes and that is not a priority to develop at the moment.

The hotel beach has beautiful water and a nice sandy beach HOWEVER there are warning signs everywhere for stingrays, jelly fish, sea snakes in the water. Upon visiting the beach we found jellyfish all around, you do have people which still take the risk and go swimming, just depends how you feel about it.

Pools: 3 x pools

Entertainment: set days at the restaurants - mainly live band and belly/Turkish dancer

Service: amazing service, very friendly and always willing to help, especially In restaurants.... The restaurant staff and managers always take care of their customers, the managers make the extra effort to find out personally how your meal is and if they can do anything to make your meal better. If you are not happy they will remake your meal to the way you would like it.

Overall for a 5* hotel I was very disappointed, personally I have stayed in many hotels in different countries and this hotel for was not what I expected, especially with what you pay for.

From the first moment of checking in there are problems and then throughout your stay it does not get better. There were a lot of disappointments and too many problems, I did feel that I could of been the only guest with problems however I had a few guests who had similar situations.

I say judge each place for yourself as everyone has their own experience which differs from one to another. Personally there are better hotels in Dubai and better value for money.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and had a fantastic time. The hotel deserves it's 5 stars, you are looked after from start to finish and nothing is too much trouble.
We had a sea view room which was lovely, the bed was very comfortable and we were provided with water and fruit daily. I was there for my birthday and was presented with a lovely bunch of flowers, wine and a cake which was a lovely gesture.
Breakfast was good with lots of choice, we also used the poolside service and ate at the Mexican, which I can definitely recommend a visit to. (especially the tequila room)
The location is excellent to wander along the walk in the evenings and getting a taxi was cheap to travel around in.
I can see why so many people visit this hotel year after year. I would love to go back one day.

Room Tip: It is worth upgrading to a sea view

We stayed here 5 years ago for our honeymoon which was wonderful. So we approached this stopover on our way back from Sri Lanka with some trepidation just hoping the stay would be as memorable as our last.
We had no reason to worry.
We booked a deluxe sea view room but were upgraded on arrival to a Tower Club room, however the room wasn't ready so the they offered us a complimentary lunch whilst they prepared the room." How good is that".
The view from the room was stunning over the pool towards the Burj Al Arab and left towards the gulf. The upgrade to the club room was a bonus with access to the club lounge for breakfast and complimentary drinks and canapés in the evening.
The staff in every area were outstanding always ready to please and still with that relaxed but excellent customer service we remembered from our Honeymoon.
The portfolio of restaurants has improved with multi choice from Fusion to Mexican to Arabic and as always the food was excellent.
There is certain Magic about this hotel which hits you as you walk in, its the one hotel where we truly relax and just enjoy the experience. Negatives ......none to report.
