Just to get the ho hum taste of "fusion Asian" out of my mouth (see my last review) I decided to hunt down Singapore Deli, an unpretentious restaurant in the heart of Karama.
This restaurant feels like it belongs to a hawker place in Singapore, though it caters more to the Indonesian side of that melting pot of a city. The satay is great, with the right balance of peanut goodness and spices. Sadly, the Lhaksa soup was a slight letdown.it had cucumber strips, which was a weird surprise. At 30dhs, it was a fairly steep letdown (for hawker style fare).
Next time I'll try the noodles or rice dishes.
Authentic restaurants like these should be encouraged because they make stronger statements than run of the mill (upscale) restaurants who could exist anywhere in the planet.
