Living near this restaurant and wanting a good Tex-Mex meal, I often go back to El Chico hoping that it will improve. It doesn't! I order the same thing everytime and prepared the same way. They always send it out wrong, forcing me to send it back. Then I sit and watch my friend eat while I wait. Let me explain...I love fajitas! I have them whenever they're offered on a menu. I like them with the onions and peppers cooked extra well done (almost burned). Cooked this was, they give a nice smokey flavor to the fajita. I always emphasize to the waitress to have the onions and peppers 'cooked extra, extra, extra well done.' This message NEVER gets to the kitchen, or they just don't care. They ALWAYS come out barely cooked and I ALWAYS send them back. Funny how after I send them back, they can cook them correctly. This time, with the 'manager' standing only 2 meters from our table, when the waitress started to return my fajitas to the kitchen, she showed the manager, but did he come to our table? NO! He did however visit several tables near us. This total lack of customer service is appalling! If this was my restuarant, I would fire him on the spot, along with the cook. Having years of restaurant experience myself, I know a little something about customer service. We were taught 'the customer is always right.' This concept obviously doesn't carry over to other countries and especially in the UAE. It's not all negative though. The location is great for sitting outside and people watching. The salsa and chips are excellent. With only under proper management and properly trained staff, this restaurant could be the best Tex-Mex in Dubai. For now that seems unreachable. I find it interesting how El Chico and Chili's are both owned by the same company. At El Chico the service is BAD! At Chili's the service is EXCELLENT! Go figure.
