This is the main artery through Dubai, E11. You must have a pair on you, or have experience driving on roads like the Autobahn. It's not Route 66 crusing. Six lanes each way, 120km/h limit (but the cameras won't tag you at 150 I've learned), 80km/h minimum make this road a crazy unique experience. If you see headlights flashing you, get out of the way! You must drive aggressively on this road or you will not have a pleasant experience. It's extremely common to see gnarly wrecks on a daily basis, typically some supercar mashed up against the rail behind a lorrie or camry. Understand that UAE roads are not typical roads. If you miss your exit be prepared to drive another 30 minutes just to get back on track. But, if you live here, driving is a must. If you're visiting, stick to the metro or taxis and keep yourself out of the hospital with a heart attack or worse. From around Jebel Ali all the way past downtown you will pay Salik tolls of about 5-10 dhs each pass. Keep this in mind when driving. If you don't want to pay the tolls stick to side roads.
