I'm usually very wary of "modern fusion" restaurants because they usually mean something that gives a hint of the original but with fewer or cheaper ingredients.
My last meal there proved this motto once again.
Yes, the ambience is nice...modern rustic, even posh. But one has to back it up with the food. I remembered good pasta and braised dishes in the past but, as I was missing Singapore, I tried their Lhaksa. Or what they thought was Lhaksa.
Instead of egg noodles swimming in a spicy coconut milk sauce packed with flavors of dried shrimp. What I had was a bowl of thick noodles in a thick sauce. It resembled udon noodles in a yellower japanese curry sauce. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't Lhaksa.
My dining partner ordered pho bo, which looked (and said tasted) much better than mine.
We both agreed that the fresh spring rolls were tasteless. There was too much noodle and less shrimp and fresh ingredients in the filling. And the hoisin based sauce was too overpowering. They should have stuck to the original Vietnamese fish sauce based dip.
The iced teas, though steep, were great.
