Before I start this review it is maybe worth mentioning that when we booked our holiday, we booked as a 5 star secret hotel Dubai with low cost holidays. Once our booking was confirmed, the hotel name was revealed and we were certainly not disappointed!.
From the moment we arrived at the Meydan Hotel, we knew straight away that this hotel really was something special. We were allocated room 422 from 18th August to 1st September. Our room had spectacular views of the racecourse and had all the facilities you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The only minor downside is that the rooms could do with perhaps a digital alarm clock.
Rooms can be serviced once or twice a day, it is really up to you. All bedding was changed daily and rooms were cleaned to a very high standard.
The hotel itself is truly a sight to see. It is one of the longest hotels in the world at 1.6km in length and has its own Imax cinema, Golf course, Tennis courts, gym, Infinity roof top pool....the list goes on.
What was particularly nice was the friendliness of all of the Meydan staff, no one and I really do mean no one would pass you without saying hello or enquiring about your stay, something hotels in this country could learn from!.
We stayed half board for our holiday and expected a buffet breakfast and evening meal. Breakfast was excellent and there was always something for everyone. On our first night, there was no buffet meal and we were advised that the hotel was only serving a la carte but we could pick from the menu. We were unsure of how much we had to spend per person from the a la carte menu and were initially told 75 Dirhams per person. This would only have purchased one or two main courses without a starter or sweet. I eventually spoke with the assistant Concierge manager (Chicho), who quickly sorted out a misunderstanding and we were allocated 175 Dirhams per person to spend each night, which was more than adequate.
If you are considering staying at this hotel, be aware that it is a short distance, probably no more than 10 minutes or so from Dubai Mall by car. The hotel provides a shuttle bus at certain times throughout the day which is free to go to and from the Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates but the last trip at night is 1830. There are Government taxis which will cost approx 25 Dirhams, roughly £5 to go from the hotel to the Dubai Mall but you need to ask reception to phone one and you may have to wait a short time on one arriving. If you want, you can also use private taxis at the hotel but expect to pay a bit more, usually 40 Dirhams for the same journey. Whilst on the subject of taxis, if you do find yourself at the Dubai Mall, do not be tricked into using private taxis for your journey home, they will charge you up to 80 Dirhams for this journey, go to the lower ground floor where there is a well organised queuing system for the Government taxis.
I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone and certainly hope to return in the near future. I would especially like to thank all the staff at the hotel for making our trip so enjoyable. A special mention to Chicho for all his help and advice, Judain for assisting us with our safari pick up, Vijeesh and Mark from Farriers restaurant who were always helpful and polite and finally all the lifeguards and staff at the rooftop infinity pool who made the sunbathing so relaxing.
