“A starting point for active outside stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014 via mobile

The hotel is situated close to bur Dubai, malls, metro, airport, main roads. Free parking under the hotel, taxi stand in front of the hotel ... Supermarket and restaurants 5-10 minutes away.

Because of the wifi free area in the lobby (in the rooms only free wired internet and at additional fee wifi) you feel welcomed by the mobile phone generation buzz ... Skyping, chatting, mailing people, connecting to the world. Like a marketplace. From the lobby there is the access to the bar, Asian, Indian and Western restaurants/ bar. Reception is well prepared to handle buss loads of newcomers / leavers.

My room was ( as requested ' as high as possible' because of the live music in the bar on the ground floor). Spacious room with well equipped bathroom. Wired Internet was doing its work (since I have a MacBook, I create my own little wifi network for mobile gear) .. So far so good.

I stay here to sport, rest, read and write. It is all outside oriented ... I left the hotel at 6:30 am en came back around 18:00 ... Took shower and left outside for drink/ eat 90% of my stay. During the 10% of my stay I used bar/ restaurant. 50% it was ok. The wok restaurant has a fab. Energy/ kitchen ... I felt welcome with all there is/ was. The bar is 'not my cup of tea' ... Smoking, noise and the 'incentive driven energy of the staff' does not serve the purpose of my stay ...

The espresso bar in the lobby serves high standard espresso's

There has been written a lot about this hotel in the booking sites I use ... The raining should be higher, since the price and quality are worth it. The low price attracts a lot of young people from all places of the world ... A kind of 'iPhone generation' .. Having fun with safari trips, food, drinks etc ... Do not go here if you want to come to stay at the hotel premises and are looking for rest, peaceful vacation .... In case you are looking for a solid starting point for an 'external' oriented vacation, Citymax is the place to be. Btw: why would you stay in your room, and complain about (I quote what I read in preparation of my trip) "limited tv channels, small bathroom, limited view, non functioning of light switches" if you are in one of the 'hottest' and extreme places in the planet: 90 Km's cycling in the desert, indoor ski-ing, shop until you drop, the most extended beaches you can imagine, old places, museum, The biggest Mosque you can imagine, 100's of great other places/ restaurant to support a great stay in Dubai ... I came here 3 times before .... I keep coming back.

Hotel was a nice hotel. In terms of the room it was very comfortable with a lot of space. However when we had a shower water would go all over the bathroom and it was quite slippery. But the beds were also comfortable and we managed to get a good night sleep. We also also on a number of occasions had a problem where our keys wouldn't work with our door but the staff were very friendly in fixing it for us

One downside I would say is the lack of free wifi in the rooms was annoying. You had to go down to the lobby for wifi and thus made the lobby very busy and the smell of smoke from the huddle bar came through to the lobby and made it discomfortable.

Overall I would say that the hotel is a good place to stay and would recommend anyone to the hotel and would say to try the sizzling wok as it has great food and good value for money

I stayed at this hotel with my family during Christmas 2013, for five nights. We were on a leisure trip. The hotel is centrally located in Bur Dubai. The rooms are so small, that while walking you have to take care of the wall mounted TV. The bathroom is equally small. In short your basic comforts can be taken care of with a compromised size. The hotel lobby is always full of guests, due to free wi-fi there. There is always a smoky and unpleasant odor in the lobby. Try to get a room on seventh floor for peace of mind, as we did. The room cleaning however was excellent. The Indian restaurant we visited was very average. Overall, not so good not so bad experience. At this hotel again ? Absolutely no, I will definitely prefer to try some other hotel at a more price, on my next Dubai visit.

The hotel was clean. It seems to be favored by Russian tourists. The wifi is only available in the lobby. The hotel gym is not well equipped and maintained and some of the machines are broken.
Hotel is 10 minute walk from Dubai Creek and nearby souqs and 10 minute walk from Al Karama metro station. A taxi ride to Dubai Mall costs about 25 AED, and 50 AED to Mall of the Emirates. The Sizzling Wok, hotel's Asian fusion restaurant serves rather lousy food and is best to be avoided.

The hotel is centrally located in the town. We were allowed fro early check in at 12.30pm. Rooms are well kept.
Internet wifi service available in lobby. Need to purchase wifi voucher if you want to surf in your room. Having said that, they provide LAN wire in your room for internet service.
Choices of food for breakfast not much but still okay.
Staffs are friendly and helpful.
Shuttle service to the places allocated always on time.

I stayed with a friend in the Citymax between Christmas and New Year for a relaxing break in the warmth away from the UK. This hotel was average and catered for most of our needs but if I returned to Dubai I would find something a bit more luxurious or closer to the main area.

Advantages:
Reasonably priced
Comfortable Beds
Great cleaning service (the guy was really friendly and helpful)
Excellent restaurant (Sizzling Wok)
Free bus to Jumeirah beach
Easy to get taxi's from outside
Nearest metro is about a 10/15 min walk away
Concierge was very helpful
Free water, tea and coffee in room

Disadvantages:
Only WIFI in the lobby
Very busy - the lobby is always heaving (lots of traffic passing through)
Noisy in room - we could hear the traffic outside
The bar stank of smoke and it filtered through to the lobby. Our room also smelt of stale smoke even though we requested non-smoking.
Small rooms
Hot water ran out during peak times (i.e. morning and evening)
No English TV channels
Breakfast leaves much to be desired - a very strange selection if you are from the UK
Swimming Pool was heaving with people
Not many English speaking guests
