“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Stay there in January for 4 days. Small room but very clean and quiet. The breakfast is very good and the dinner buffet choices were pretty good as well. All the personnel were very polite and helpful. The hotel is very well situated, close to the Dubai Mall and Metro. It was a good choice.

We stayed in this hotel with my husband in January,2013. It has very good location - you can quickly get to the centre, Burj Halifa, Dubai mall and Dubai Creek. Metro station is 15-20 minutes on foot. Al Karama Souk is also close to the hotel. 10 minutes on foot and you can get to the big supermarket - Spinneys (turn left from the entrance and go to the first big crossroad and you'll see it).
Rooms are not very big but have enough space for two, they were cleaned every day and cleanness didn't depend on the tip.
Food for breakfast was not various, but really good (but not coffee). Our advice - don't book lunches and dinners in the restaurant, there are a lot of places to eat and you will be more mobile to see Dubai.
The hotel has a shuttle bus to the beach and to Dubai mall. As for me it's too small, especially for tours to the beach - it's not very interesting to spend your vacation in the queue:( So we usually took a taxi to the seaside:( The hotel is full of people different nations, there are a lot of russians but the hotel is big so you meet all people only in lifts and restaurants and have to deal only with your neighbours (we were lucky and lived almost in the complete silence). So what about the noise? We had two precedents - one with our neighbours which was solved out in one call to the reception and the second one with the сleaner who started cleaning at 5 a.m.:)))))

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise

We stayed in this hotel in October. It has a convinient location, close to many things like shopping center and metro station. It is a comfortable and modern hotel, the rooms are not very big but have enough space. Food in the main restaurant was really good for breakfast as well as for dinner. The only negative thing was instant coffee in the morning. The personell at the restaurant was very friendly and helpful, we especially remembered a very nice man-Govinda, if I am not mistaken. The hotel has shuttle bus to the beach and to Dubai mall. In my opinion the bus to the beach leaves quite late, but this is because I am an early riser. Maybe other guests were happy about it.

The hotel is located pretty much good, since from Bur Dubai you can quickly get to the Creek, Downtown and Jumeira. Although the metro (15 minutes walk) could be closer..
The hotel is full of russians which may be the problem for some people :)
the breakfasts are similar from day to day which is not bad if you live for more than a week.
The room is clean but small. The main problem is bad noise isolation

Room Tip: living in a room with view on the inner space is no good. try to choose a number with a view to Burj...

As we arrived we saw that the lobby looked quite different from the photos online. The lobby was a mix of lobby and a cheap looking café, not a classy look. Asked for a non-smoking room, but when we got into the room it smelled like sigarettes. The carpet was dirty and the shower as well. Traffic was loud and we had trouble sleeping. After one night we decided to change hotel. After looking around we found a fivestar hotel at Jumeira beach and left Citymax Bur Dubai the next day. In total we stayed for two nights at Citymax, although we had payed for five. As we wanted our vacation in Dubai to be a relaxing vacation, we felt that Citymax couldn't offer what we needed. We wanted a hotel that had a room we actually wanted to BE in, a more quiet neighbourhood and the opportunity to eat at a nice restaurant at the hotel and also a quiet garden and pool-area. Citymax Bur Dubai had neither. If you are not the slightest picky, this might be the perfect hotel for you. The only positive thing I can say is that it was a very cheap hotel (you get what you pay for...), and it looks modern.

Dear Ingus 1982,

Thank you for your comments on Trip advisor dated the 16th of January 2013. I’d like to apologize that when you checked in the hotel you asked for a non smoking room and received a smoking room. Thank you for bringing this to my attention and I already addressed this with my Front Office Team.

In terms of your comments to the room, I’m slightly confused as we don’t have carpets in the rooms. Are you perhaps referring to the little mat next to the bed? If so then I am happy to report that all of these mats have recently been cleaned.

In terms of our product I would like to point out that we are a mid market hotel (i.e. 3 star) and we do advertise ourselves as such. Therefore there is a big difference between Citymax and what you would receive in a 5 star hotel. However in saying this, there is also a massive difference in the price you pay at Citymax and a 5 star hotel. I would also like to mention that in terms of Food and Beverage Outlets we offer our customers a choice of All Day Dining (continental), Asian Fusion, Northern Indian Cuisine and a very large Pub Grill. With these choices mentioned we offer our guests a variety of dishes which caters to the majority of the global population. I would also like to add that it is our Food and Beverage Outlets which sets us apart from your standard mid market hotel, as our outlets portray a more upmarket image. However our rooms are standard 3 star product rooms.

Thank you so much for your comments and I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Dubai.

Regards,

Walter Knight

Ok here's the deal good people; don't expect to pay say $50 per night and expect 5 star treatment. I happen to have stayed in July and actually paid that $50 and so I was prepared for the worst. What I got really surprised me, nice rooms, free WIFI, free coffee, they even helped me book a desert safari. I've stayed in 5 star hotels and to be honest this hotel rocks...they even don't mind if you sneak a lady in the room. What more would a man ask for?? Good job Mr Knight and I'll be there come March if its not fully booked.

Room Tip: Everything's just nice people...go for it!

Dear Allan M,

Thank you for your very positive and truthful comment about Citymax Bur Dubai which were mentioned on Trip Advisor dated the 14th of January 2013.

Thank you for informing us that you “snuck” a lady into your room (we will keep an eye out on you on your next visit).

I would like to inform on the policies and procedures of the hotel related to invited guests to your room. I would also like to add that our policy and procedure is related directly to the law of Dubai.

1. Any guests invited to the room needs to register at the front desk.

2. In order for a guest to go to the room, the guest needs to present their original passport or Emirates ID. Please be advised that copies of passports or IDs are not accepted

3. A maximum of 2 adults may be in our rooms at one time. This is due to the fact that our rooms are 22 sqm in size only.

4. When your guest wishes to leave the hotel, it is your responsibility to personally escort your guest to the lobby.

Once more thank you very much for your positive comments and we are looking forward to your upcoming visit in March.

Regards,

Walter Knight

Check-in is chaotic and disorganized, as is check-out. Free internet is very slow, both wired and wireless. Rooms are clean and adequate. Breakfast is good. No hot water on my last day to shower with. Seems like the hotel caters mostly to Russian tourists.

Dear PetePandit,

Thank you for the comments on Trip Advisor dated on the 12th of January 2013 related to the check in/check out service. As you noticed the hotel is a busy hotel and at times the Front Desk gets over powered and was really very busy. Due to your comments we are currently looking at ways to streamline the check in and check out services to become more efficient.

Similarly we have looked at the slow internet service which is provided in the lobby and coffee shop and are pleased to inform you that due to your comment we are installing additional routers to cope up with the high demand in these areas.

In all of our guest rooms there is a switch located on the outside by the bathroom door which indicates “hot water.” This switch is provided so that guests can turn on the hot water if they require and turn it off if not. Unfortunately some guests oversee the switch and therefore on a few occasions when this was brought to our attention by an inhouse guest, our engineering staff has gone to the rooms and found that this switch was not turned on. We are looking at ways to highlight this switch to draw guest attention to its purpose.

I apologize most sincerely and would like you to make contact with me on our next visit to Dubai as I would like the opportunity to show you a true experience of Citymax Bur Dubai.

Best Regards,

Walter Knight
