“Quite fantastic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

We dined at Al Hadheerah as part of our stay at the Bab Al Shams Resort. We were a little hesitant at first as the price seemed quite steep but it looked quite good and by all accounts, was a bit of a must see.

The walk down to the restaurant was very pleasant – it was dusk, the camels and their handlers were out and the torches lit the way. Ideal photo opportunities! Once you arrived, you were greeted by a photographer which was a bit touristy as they made you pose for your picture. The whole area is quite mind blowing though. I stood there with mouth agape as I wondered around the food stalls, the displays, the buffet stations. The level of presentation and detail really was quite remarkable. We were shown to our table which was a lovely seated pit with cushions and pillows. We received complementary dips and breads which was a nice start. It seems that there are 2 level of waiting staff – those that run around and clear the plates and those that do the drinks. The drinks staff were a little slow and even just waiting for soft drinks took some time.

The buffet was really out of this world – everything and anything you could imagine from whole cooked lamb, to seafood, to curry to stir fry … even and Baskin and Robbins ice cream stand. Definitely something for everyone.

The entertainment was also quite good. My favourite was the guy who spins in the traditional “skirt” – and he keeps going non-stop for 15 minutes!! The dancers were also good, the belly dancer and the traditional singer were more popular with the locals but grated with me after a while. The highlight was the Heritage Story which was a production showcased on the sandune behind the stage. They had camels and horses and fireworks – a great way to top off the night.

I think it is something worth experiencing if you are in Dubai and want something traditional. Weighing up the cost, I think if you were to have dinner and a show tickets in most big cities, you would pay the same sort of price so I would look at it like that. Probably not something for traditional backpacker types. The locals seem to love it so it can’t be all bad!

“Great Night Out - Good Entertainment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2012

Al Hadheerah is a fantastic venue in the heart of the desert.
The range of food is amazing and the quality great.
Live entertainment is varied and exciting and really makes the evening special.
I've been twice and look forward to 'showing off' this venue to my next visitors.
They will be impressed.
Thoroughly recommended and not too expensive for the whole package.

“Tourist trap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2012

We went to this buffet restaurants with some friends, after having had an aperitif at the nearby (and much nicer) hotel/restaurant Bab Al Shams.
Al Hadheerah proved to be a kind of tourist factory mass restaurant: hundred of people, very noisy, with a tourist show consisting in some camels and horses running back and forth on the nearby hills (did not really feel authentic...). The live music and dance performance was also more annoying that enjoyable: the very loud and never-stopping music was making hard even to talk to each other seated at the same table!
The food was OK (with an all-you-can-eat buffet concept) but far from outstanding.
But the worst surprise came when we asked for the bill. The price for the buffet (excluding drinks) was 425 Dhs per person (90 eur, 115 usd). The problem was that when we called to book our table we were told a totally different price: around 250 Dhs. Being a buffet, there was no menu thus no way to check the prices. Only walking out we realized that the buffet prices were noted on a tiny, unnoticeable small board next to the entrance...
Being that a mistake from the booking receptionist or a misunderstanding due to the language, the fact is we really felt scammed. The manager on duty was absolutely not helpful either, only capable of repeating that that was the price to pay.
All in all, I really do not recommend this place. Not authentic at all and overpriced.

“What a rip off tourist trap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2012

Situated next to a very pleasant hotel/restaurant Bab Al Shams this restaurant proved to be an outrageous rip off with loud, popular entertainment.

The price for an "arabic buffet" costs 425 dirhams (90 euros, 115 USD) during the weeknights and 495 dirhams (102 euros, 135 USD) during weekends. The offer of food is varied and vast, however the quality does not justify the high price.
The "show" consists of cheap, loud and most likely not local music. The audience is entertained by a show that had nothing local and original except the camels that were walked bcd and forth twice across the scene.
Complete "tourist-factory", with hundreds of clients. For friends would advice to avoid this place and, instead, aim for something alternative, more authentic.

Had me and my friends known the above we would have continued to dinner our extremely pleasant and relaxing aperitif in the restaurant Bab Al Shams.

“Authentic Arabic cuisine, but far from anywhere civilization”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

I like the setup, scene, food and okay service. Only issue was the amount of miles we made to get there. Please note that the in the standard Dubai maps available everywhere, you may not be able to see the hotel this restaurant located. So it took 2,5 hours to find the place. It is an open buffet Arabic cuisine, outside seating available. Drinks are served by the waiters who looked a little exhausted running around to catch up with the workload when we were there, it was a busy evening, they were still kind enough and smiling. During dinner there is an open air Arabic themed show we liked very much. After al, my girlfriend and I found this exciting place a little bit expensive (I guess it was 300+AED per person) considering accessibility, service and food quality. Still worth to try.
