“Luxury on the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2011

Lovely, well set out rooms (not the largest but room enough), with well designed touches, super-comfortable beds and luxurious bathrooms. Well built too - very quiet inside the rooms. Balcony with a sea view a real treat. Good service. My second visit as good as my first.

Great Hotel, fantastic location. There were too little beds on the swimming pool area, what a shame, the views are amazing. The chairs could had been replaced by sunbeds. They are very uncomfortable. The cleanliness of the rooms was poor. I don't think the room was vacuumed once during our stay and no one bothered to tide up the room (it is expected on a 5*). They only cleaned the toilet, not even tided our stuff. The concierge staff weren't very knowledgeable when you ask for recommendations. It is better to have your homework done regarding restaurants. There is a lot os space for improvement.

We stayed at the Sofitel for 3 nights and it was a really friendly and cute hotel. The area is very convenient for eating out, and you will find restaurants open well into the middle of the night.
Just one point, the road is a bit of a car showroom. I know the men in our group loved this! They had the most expensive cars going up and down our hotel strip! Either to your annoyance, or you will love it.

The hotel reception was really special, with a lovely decorated tree. The bedrooms were pleasant and had an open bath tub integrated with the bedroom (same as the Western Hotel chain.)
The hotel has a good Irish bar, with drinks offers! Alcohol is soooo overpriced in Dubai, and I only ever saw drinks offers in the Irish bar in the hotel. Unfortunately we ran out of time, and never ate a single meal in our hotel. However I heard from others that the food was good. But because there is so many restaurants outside the hotel you are spoilt for choice.

The only let down of the hotel was the swimming pool. It is a small pool on the roof, and seating is really limited. But if you have a beach across the road, and so much to do in Dubai, I would consider how necessary the pool is.

The same pool roof area turns into quite a nice bar area in the evening. You can enjoy an expensive pint of beer for about £7 of a glass of wine for about £9, but the ambience is nice. We had a really nice Indian waiter, who was really helpful and extremely polite. I wish I took his name. One little problem was that we didn't much appreciate two screaming teenagers and an adult running around in their swimming trunks, when it was grown up time to relax at the bar.

The door staff at the hotel are the nicest members of staff. They are extremely helpful and always happy! It was our wedding anniversary when we were there, and the staff left us a little cute anniversary cake in our room (nice touch).

The hotel is about 30 mins from the Burj, and about 40 mins from the airport. Taxis are reasonable so I would most definetely recommend booking in this area. If you visit Dubai make sure you visit Festival City, very nice and chilled out place to eat. Another close spot would be to visit the Buddha Bar, which is 5 mins away from the hotel and is located in Grosvenor House. The dessert safari booked by the hotel wasn't great, I would suggest booking this independently like other guests did.

Do stay at this hotel!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying at Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach and taking time to review the hotel in detail. I'm glad you had a good time in Dubai and Sofitel Dubai contributed to your overall experience. The hotel is located on The Walk, the new place to see and be seen in Dubai, with all the fancy cafes, shops, events, cars and bikes.
The hotel is newly built and is one of the most modern hotels in the area. We have a couple of food and beverage options in the hotel including an Italian restaurant and a 24hr lounge. The Irish Bar, as you said, always has something going on. Right now we are hosting Australia Week. Too bad you are not staying with us anymore. I apologise for the inconvenience you had at the pool. Good news is that we are adding more sun-loungers by the pool to accommodate the increasing demand.
As Sofitel Luxury Hotel, all the guests have certain level of expectations from us which every team member understands and makes sure those expectations are well met. Your comments will help us in staff motivation and recognition.

I want to thank you again for your time and appreciation of Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach.

I look forward to welcome you back soon..

Regards,

Sami Nasser

Good standard 5* Hotel, probably a little over formal for our liking but but a very good hotel all the same. The hotel has been open more than 12 months but still feels at times like it is in opening mode - I can't help thinking the service would benefit if the managers were a little more visible around the guest areas. That said the staff were excellent and despite service lacking any real sense of urgency we received good service from very eager, friendly staff on the whole. Some nice touches by way that are laid on free of charge which was very much appreciated. As most reviewers have commented on the pool area there is not much to say other than if you have smaller children you are better off at one of the bigger resort style hotel like Jumeirah Beach Hotel Or Madinat which are more geared up for kids. Overall an elegant hotel with good service in a good location. Beware - rates are due to increase to circa £400 per night - this would be pricey for this hotel.

We stayed at the Sofitel for 4 nights in January.
The hotel is on the beach which is great if you want a relaxing holiday. You need to cross the car park but it's only 2 minutes and really not a big deal. The beach itself is lovely and clean and most of the time we were there it wasn't too crowded. As mentioned before the hotel gives you a pack of mini loungers, towels and water to take which is really useful.
There are ample restaurants outside the hotel so you don't have to travel far for food. These are mostly casual restaurants of every type of food with some ice cream places as well.
We went to atlantis for the waterpark on one day by taxi and it cost about £6 and the taxi to the airport was about £14. We didn't use the metro but I think it's walking distance from the hotel. We went to Dubai mall to see the fountains - there is a free shuttle going from the hotel to all malls (but for some reason they didn't tell us about them, we saw the shuttle bus by chance outside one day!)
The only problem we had was on the first night - we were initially put in a room on the 6th floor (609 I think) and the door card did not work. This meant everytime we wanted to get into the room we had to call reception and it then took them 30mins to get us in. After the 4th time of being told it would be fixed we became a bit fed up and after speaking to the manager they moved us to a room on the 19th floor. I would also recommend asking for a room higher up as the noise from the road carries on until about 3/4am esp on Friday and Saturday night and can be heard in the bedrooms.
Last tip is to get one of the entertainer books - it saved us lots of money on food, entry fees etc and we only used it for 3 days!

Have been there without much expectations, I was wrong ! The location is perfect, the beach accessible and clean, the surrounding is pedestrian friendly (very rare in Dubai) and the room is originally set, comfortable and charming.
Restaurant and bars are ok but you have also several options around without being obliged to take car / Taxi which is again an outstanding exception in Dubai.
Service is correct, friendly and smiley ... but one "personal" disappointment: they spotted my Reward program platinum Tier (entitling to upgrade and some extra service) only at ... Checkout !
Finally ... the pool is speechless ! Hot enough for night swim, breathless view and cozy small bar by the water.
Definitely will go back there at next occasion
