“Average experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Heard good reviews about this restaurant that we decided to have the buffet dinner here when we stayed in Westin. Staff were attentive. The spread was good, but the taste of the food was not something you will remember.

“Bubbalicious brunch – nice food but average quality drinks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Having previously been impressed with the Al Qasr brunch, we decided to give Bubbalicious a try and were unfortunately disappointed with the overall experience.

We originally asked to be seated in the steakhouse, and the booking for all of us was confirmed via email. The day before the brunch they phoned us to say we couldn’t be in the steakhouse with our 10 and 12 year olds as it was for over 18s only. We ended up sitting in the Thai restaurant, which was a little quieter and less cramped than the Blue Orange buffet area, which was packed with large groups.

The service was fine, although unless you paid extra for the Mumm champagne the only sparkling option was a Jacobs Creek Australian rosé. To differentiate between “sparkling” and “champagne” purchasers, you’re given a festival type wristband on entry. Nevertheless, our glasses were continually topped up for the three hours and the waitress was fairly quick at serving soft drinks for the children too.

The food was of a good standard (as you’d expect for the price), with the steaks cooked to order, hog roast and burgers being particularly good. It’s a shame they were all placed far too high for a 10 year old to reach – but maybe that was deliberate.

The desserts were also a standout, with massive cakes you were free to cut your own slides from , rather than being pre-cut into single serves like a lot of other buffets.

On the other hand, the drinks, when compared to Al Qasr, were a let-down. The alcohol wasn’t the high end brands you’d expect from a hotel of this standard (more unspecified brands which had been pre mixed into punches and cocktails), and the staff at the cocktail stations were restricting the servings to one per person, which was inconvenient for a group.

There was a cocktail fountain serving something a fruit concoction in the steakhouse, but the only glasses available to fill were tiny plastic cups, like you’d find at a water cooler! I wouldn’t have thought a brunch of this standard would serve anything in plastic.

We tried ordering cocktails from the waitress, but she said staff weren’t allowed to serve cocktails, and we’d have to queue up (one at a time) ourselves.

At Al Qasr the staff were happy to mix non-alcoholic versions of the cocktails in coconuts, pineapples and melons for the kids, but at Bubbalicious they refused, saying they were for alcohol only.

Unless you’re going with very young children (as children under 6 are free), or are going for soft drinks only, I wouldn’t bother with Bubbalicious.

“Forgot what a great brunch should be like. This is it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

Bubbalicious. What a great afternoon. The food choice and quality was exceptional. From the Thai to the steaks to the Salamis and cheese and the Yorkshire pudding. Great atmosphere and really reminded me how brunch should be. Great fun, great food and great service. Well done Starwoods. You excelled yourselves ! Obviously a well managed property.
