“Reasonably good but plenty of improvement needed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Overall, a very nice hotel.

Top bits:
- segregated adults-only part of pool
- breakfast selection v. good (but they will start to clear away food in advance of the official cut-off time)
- the executive package well worth it (to include dinner, afternooon tea and canapes and evening drinks), but you get a city-view room rather than water view
- great facilities for gettng cleaned up, post check-out before going for the late flight to LHR

What's wrong with it?
- NO FAULT of the hotel, but one day we were subjected to blaring music from a yacht docked in front of the hotel. They were playing "Money, money, money, it's a rich man's world"... geddit? Such cards, these billionaires. Totally ruined the peaceful afternoon i was aiming for.
- Barastis: a horrible bar full of sexually-repressed blokes eyeing up and sleazing over western ladies, being generally rude, and pushy at the bar for service; one particularly obnoxious bloke in his mid 30s was boasting of having his father's credit card... guess what... at your age you should have your own card, you plonker.
- Pool service: nobody handing out cooling drinks / cold towels / sunglasses cleaner etc. And getting paid-for service pool-side was challenging
- Bars: the in-house bars (ie not Barastis) had the atmosphere of a morgue. Most of the time we were the only ones in there despite the hotel being generally busy

Stayed at the Westin for 7 nights and we are sad to leave this place.

Our flight arrived early in the morning so we were at the hotel by 8am to check in. We arrived at the hotel (about 100 direms from the airport in a taxi) and were greeted by the bellboy who took our luggage and friendly staff. Check in didnt take long and after a long haul flight the lady at reception informed us as our room was not ready they were giving us complimentary breakfast! What a treat! There was also an executive lounge where you can use showers and facilities whilst waiting for the room to be ready!

The breakfast covered a wide spread from english breakfast to mezza to curries to ice cream! Half way through our breakfast the lady from reception came down to advise us our room was ready!

Rooms were extremely spacious, we had a balcony sea view. The bed was comfy and you sunk into you. Bathroom had a seperate room for the monsoon shower and another room for toilet. Housekeeping did a great job, conplimentary bottled water everyday and even a nespresso machine.

Private beach was definately needed especially as part of our stay was during Ramadan and it was so hot reaching 45 degrees. Two main pools, one lap pool and one lazy. Also a childrens pool. There is a pool bar at either end of the lazy pool, however the height is 4.9 ft the whole length of the pool. Facilities are shared with Le Meridien hotel next door so you can also use their pool. Also table tennis, football basketball and gym too. The gym allows you to place a deposit and they lend you a pair of trainers. How convenient!

Beach staff were great and brought round cold towels to cool you down. The only complaint regarding this resort is the birds around the pool and beach area. They were aggressive and hung around in groups and were used to the public. They would hang around especially if you ordered any food. Quite irritating an they would ruin the green of the resort by picking at it and even drink the pool water or take ice cubes from your drink. Not ideal!

We dined in Hunters steak restaurant which lived up to its reputation. Oeno bar also did nice drinks.

Concerige was also helpful especially around Ramadan tips. Varun was also v helpful in helping us make a booking at the Burj Al Arab. The staff really couldnt do enough for you. Great stay, would recommend to anyone looking to stay by Jumeriah beach, great views of the Atlantis hotel drom resort beach.

If Westin sorted out the birds it would be perfection!

Well, I had to travel for just an overnight stay in Dubai. During the transit in the airport i quickly booked the first hotel that came up on booking.com.
On arrival, I was warmly greeted by the valet, the bellboy, some random employee walking past and the receptionist... all truly friendly.
The very nice receptionist chose a suitable room for me and I was just planning to go up and go to sleep. When i got to my room I was simply amazed! The size of the room is like an average NYC studio apartment! I mean, The bathroom had 2 ROOMS in it!
And the amenities.... oh, the amenities.... from fantastic soap/shampoo to the most luxurious and cozy pique shower robe, the nespresso machine, complimentary water bottles everywhere, the snacks (well, not sure if those were free, i ate them anyway....).
As i got out of the shower I recieved a call from the concierge asking if i was interested in some sightseeing, I said yes and got thorough instructions and tips on where to go and what to do.
later that night when I returned to the hotel, I winded down a little at the polished wine-bar (the only downside to the hotel were the "working" women soliciting men at the bar.... about 7 of them, but hey, it rocks some people's boat...) and went to sleep in the huge cozy bed.
Te next morning i woke for an early dunk in the stunning pool, went to a meeting, and checked out. A real 5 star experience!

Room Tip: nice porch and stunning view from 402

We recently stayed 4 days and 3 nights, including an early check in and late check out (we were charged half a day for that). The check in process was fairly speedy, even at 7:30 AM on a weekday, however, I could tell that the staff at the front desk was pretty tired and lacked attentiveness. Perhaps a bit early for warm greetings and formalities :)

The hotel is located on Mina Seyahi strip, and close (not sure if it is considered walking distance though) to "The Walk". However, if you like to take the metro / rail, you'll have to take a 5 minutes cab ride to the nearest station.

We stayed in a club room with the city view and the view quickly became trite. Hind side, would have preferred to spend a little bit more and stay in a sea facing room. The room and amenities were superb. The room was very spacious and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have experienced.

Breakfast buffet, was the best we've had anywhere! The choices and the quality of ingredients were awesome. We tried both breakfast upstairs in the club with limited choice, but nevertheless very good as well as in the main dining area on the ground floor. Would recommend that you go for the main dining area, where you are spoiled for choices.

Spa was very good, what you would expect from a Starwood property. Don't expect to walk in and be entertained, the place gets pretty full. Make reservations early, at least a day in advance.

Overall a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: City view gets tiring after the first day. Go for the sea view if you can. Also, if you need an airp...

I am a little tough on this review, hoping the Global Westin management will read it.
I stayed at many Westin hotels across the world, in very different locations, and everywhere I found the chain to be very close to my perfect business destination. Every time though there is a little something missing.

Now hear me out : the hotel in Dubai is by and large very good. Not to say excellent. The rooms are big an airy (generally consistent across Westin locations), some of the amenities are very good (the pool, the beach in particular) and the location is hard to beat if you are a tourist or on business.

What is lacking is probably a little "fun" and entertainment at the place. From the very polished wine bar through to the Spa and gym, as well as the enormous buffet restaurant (others looked closed) the whole place feels a little soulless, like some of those places in Marakesh that feel like they were designed to accommodate 3x more guests but end-up looking empty.

I like Westin hotels because they are really trying to provide an outstanding business customer service : you dial a number and someone truly answers and helps. Don't laugh : only Westin got it right in that price range. You forgot your sport gear, they give you one (I tried it in 2 places now, it works)

So I can say to everyone at the Westin franchise : keep trying. You are not far from Shangri-la service and cheaper. Way to go.

This was our first time in Dubai and we can't wait to go back. The hotel was amazing, so good we stayed in two nights to have dinner (Steak and Italian, some of the best food we've had)
The staff were very friendly and always happy to talk and help. Breakfast time is great, lots of different food stations to suit everyone and really lovely fresh orange juice at the tables as soon as you sit down. My only regret is we didn't have enough days to try everything.
We arrived from an over night flight around 10am and were informed check in wasn't until 3pm however they checked and after waiting about 20 mins (with a juice on the house) we were able to check in. We were offered breakfast but told we wouldn't be able to have it on our last day which suited us as we were leaving at 8am.
The sea view room was huge and we loved having drinks on the balcony before going out for dinner.
The spa is a fantasic way to spend the morning if the sun is too hot for you.
My only negative - when you order food at the pool / beach it's often a long time before the waiters return to remove your dirty plates etc and the birds love this, they can even remove the napkins you use to cover the plates up. You may argue why didn't we just move the trays, I tried this once and the bird jumped on my head :-) they are large birds !
Great break in Dubai.

Myself & my wife spent 7 perfect days here June - July the staff were very polite, always taking time to say good morning, afternoon & evening. The staff were very helpful at any time when asked for assistance. The cleaning of the rooms & all the hotel was perfect at all times. the quality of the food was amazing. We felt completely safe at all times during our visit. The location of the hotel was perfect. The best hotel pool we have ever had the pleasure to swim in. The Concierge was extremely helpful booking restaurants in Dubai also providing transport. To avoid disappointment in Dubai book the Westin. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Book executive room sea facing Book directly with the hotel & request a balcony (not all these...
