“An old Favorite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

Been going to the Jeddah Intercon for the past 20 years. Was just there early this month after about 2 years and the hotel still is kept well. The rooms are starting to get a tired look, the phones remind one of the early '90s, but the management still keeps a tidy ship. The room was clean and so was the bathroom.

The service is still good if you are dealing with an expat employee however, the some of the local talent at the front desk were completely useless.

Jeddah now has a few more hotels to choose from but I sill have a soft spot for the Intercon.

I'm ambassador ICH , with almost a monthly stay at one of the group...
this one (Intercontinental Jeddah) was below my expectation and I don't recommend it to anybidy, specially that there is better hotels in the city with same rates or more little bet.

Check-in employee he was trying to do his best but he was not qualified or trained, he reserved to me a regular room although I'm eligible for upgrade to suit , anyway I asked for upgrade and they chenged the room to me and upgraded it on spot.

Rooms are not bad with a nice furniture but still old. good complementary kit and fruit basket stuff, rooms not cleaned although I notified them that I'm late checkout and expected they would clean it in morning as i was out the room from 9:00 - 1:00 pm

healthy club is very old , and so it was under renovation but really I don't know how long time it will take.

I got my breakfast in 3rd Floor which is a lounge dedicated only for Businessmen and guest how stay in 3rd / 4th floors, i was very average.

Staff are friendly and location is prime, specially room service guys, someone called Zahrani and other one an Egyptian guy is called Mohamed.

nest stay in Jeddah I'll try Crown Plaza as I'm very loyal to this group.

Jeddah pronounces its Corniche and waterfront as one of the longest (+30km) and most beautiful so with our one and only day in Jeddah we thought to stay at THE waterfront hotel - the intercontinental. Being a group of international travellers we use the Intercontinental group a lot but the Jeddah version does need attention. Firstly, it is NOT a waterfront hotel. Crossing a busy 6 lane road and jumping a high fence and fighting your way through construction and buildings etc etc hardly endears you to the waterfront. i had imagined that since it was not waterfront that an overpass or underpass would have been provided - but the only nearby overpass was sadly in an advanced state of deconstruction! Secondly, I asked for advice on coffee making in room - and they said yep, everything is provided. Sadly, the photo says it all. For $700 per night, coffee mate and Nescafe will just not do. I did ask for fresh milk with my Nescafe (I decided to have a cup for nostalgia reasons - it's still just as bad as it has ever been) but at $6 per glass passed on that. The hotel generally is five star in the lobby and general appearance and maintenance of the rooms - grounds are tired and exterior is dated and ageing badly - and certainly 10 star with prices (about $9 for a real coffee in the lobby - most expensive coffee on the planet!). Our advice (the collective three of us staying in two rooms) is to look elsewhere unless you manage to get to the club floor where things get better but still in a dated building.

Room Tip: Try for higher room - our room had feature views of the roof of the downstairs and no water views

This hotel has some ups and downs. It's not representative of the best the InterContinental brand is capable of offering, though it's a bit older than some, and also a bit off the beaten track. Rooms and amenities were at the expected standard, though you may find yourself wondering about the surprisingly short beds if you're a tall person. The restaurants are very nice and the location is very convenient. There are some renovations going on at the moment, but they are being handled very unobtrusively. For its few flaws, I'd stay here again, although there's a lot of competition in the area. I do give high points to the concierge, who was probably one of the best I've dealt with here in the Kingdom.

International travelers will be happy to note that a number of languages are spoken by the hotel staff. The lobby is huge and very comfortable for lingering over coffee.

The Positive

- Great location on the Al Hama Corniche. Prime views of the King Fahd Fountain
- Good Food - Ferdaus, the buffet restaurant, and Spears, the Brazilian BBQ were top notch.
- Huge Gym - Felt like you were at a small fitness club. Also a separate facility for the ladies.
- Comfortable for Westerners - Good for business travel. Helps mitigate the culture shock
- Late checkout for Ambassador members is a HUGE perk. The airport is miserable.
- Responsive and helpful concierge desk.

The "Needs Work"

- Availability of Club Level rooms was lacking, particularly as an Ambassador member
- The so-called premium room with the fountain view was obstructed by the restaurant building
- Jeddah tends to be an expensive city, but this was 5-star pricing for a 4-star hotel.

Great gym with good sized rooms. Breakfast was excellent, especially the steak and eggs. The bed was too soft for my preference but the room was comfortable. All in it was perfect for a business trip but not somewhere I'd go for a romantic break.

Nice and huge hotel. I stayed for one night during a business trip. the rooms are big but you need to ask if you want a non-smoking room since you'd normally get a smoking room. there's also gym next to the main hotel building which is quite large and modern.
