“Charming luxury in languid Luang Prabang”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

A lovely peaceful hotel a short walk from the centre of town. We loved the fact that we could walk everywhere but that the hotel was on a quieter street. Our room, in the main building overlooking the river, was huge and beautifully decorated. Fantastic shower and really tasty breakfast. The staff were lovely and friendly. A really enjoyable stay.

I stayed here with family in the upstairs rooms. I loved this hotel - the bed was comfy and the bedding high quality, the shower was FANTASTIC and I never had a cold one! The room was clean and spacious and I enjoyed the little balcony. Location wise, it is excellent and is minutes form the main street, yet it is quiet and peaceful. The owner is helpful and the staff nice. The breakfast was good too- fresh juice, bread, fruits and then a choice of eggs or pancake. A couple of times I asked for tea to be brought to my bedroom and they happily did this. The only problem was that they never came to collect the very large tray and it was left overnight in the room (I didn't fancy navigating the stairs and road to deliver it back!). In terms of value, you pay extra for the river view and there are many non-riverside places that are similar but a lot cheaper. For me however, only being here a few days, the premium didn't bother me and I was happy to pay extra. Excellent hotel.

The Apsara was the perfect choice for our first visit to Luang Prabang. The central location meant we could easily explore the town on foot but the location along the riverfront meant it was still relaxing and peaceful at the hotel. We stayed in an upstairs room and everything from the gorgeous decor to special touches (like chilled beer glasses in the minibar) was just lovely. Staff were extremely helpful and inviting and can arrange day-trips and tours for you. The breakfast was simple but delicious and we also are at the restaurant for dinner - great cocktails and our food was divine, some of the best we had in Luang Prabang. We are do glad we booked here and will definitely be back!

Did not look anywhere else for our return to Luang Prabang as our first experience was memborable for the excellent level of service from the staff and the comfy large rooms.

This trip our small group booked three standard rooms that are a little apart from the main building which houses the reception area, bar and restaurant. We enjoyed having our own little balcony by the roadside to sit and have a beer and chat while we decided what to do with our day.

The unique old rice buildings original feel is used well with great big timber beds and furniture and flooring. I loved the huge shower and bathroom. The rooms stay lovely and cool during the day which was appreciated as we stayed in May which was extremely hot!

The Apsara is close enough to the main street to walk for a meal or to the Night Market of an evening. Turn right as you leave the hotel and you will soon be in amongst the bars and backpacking area... on our last night we stumbled upon Lao Lao Garden and were disappointed that we had found this garden oasis so late in our visit.

Ivan now has a charming young Manager, Tom who always enquired about our day or needs. The staff are quietly reserved but charming and do there best to help with any questions.

Close also to Big Brother Mouse which is also a wonderful experience while in Laos.

Room Tip: The Standard rooms though apart from the main building are still well appointed. No bath but nice li...

I stayed here for several nights. The rooms were quiet, clean and well appointed. The location is very central and within walking distance of many sights. Being right across from the river makes it a good location for relaxing with a drink, people watching or hopping on a boat for a tour. The staff here were absolutely wonderful. Polite, cheery and discreet. One of the most memorable things about this property is the breakfasts. Fresh coffee, juices, breads and the pancakes served with a wedge of lime were heavenly. Book this property with confidence.

It was a great start to the stay, they were so welcoming when they picked me up from the airport and thanked me for visiting their city. They went through the map and local attractions, which was so helpful as well. The room was quite large and the decor was very charming in a traditional sense. It was so clean, I fell on the hard wood floor, so be careful :) the location is close to the main street and walking distance to the temples, restaurants and bar area. The breakfast felt luxurious, the best I have had in Asia, fresh french bread and jams, an orange juice smoothie, fruit that is different everyday, and your choice of eggs, divine! The staff walked out with me when I left. Start to finish, a very welcoming stay in a very unique hotel!

Experience at the Apsara couldn't have been anymore pleasant!!

Quality service - young English chap with a brigade of local staff ever so helpful and able to make the stay run perfectly...

Food offerings are quality also:
Fish in Tamarind sauce truly is worth raving about...

Breakfast - simple yet as good as any 5 star hotel breakfast I have had... Omelette = sensational.

Drinks: Apsara lychee cocktails - a real winner... Although the one off Mojito less memorable...

The adjacent pathway next to the Apsara leaves you 30 seconds from the main tourist strip... Be sure to rise early to see the monks collect their daily alms...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The first and still one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Luang Prabang, the Apsara was originally a rice warehouse situated on the banks of the Nam Khan [The quieter side of town]. The Apsara is also right in the heart of the heritage village, making it the perfect place to stay. From the comfort of its large, airy bedrooms, rated by the Washington Post as "an inch beyond decadence", it's easy to explore temples and the lanes of Luang Prabang. After which you can relax on the river terrace and enjoy the spectacular views and a refreshing Beer Laos. But that's not all, our restaurant is well known for having one of the most interesting menus in town as well as a superb wine list and the driest martinis in Laos. As Hip Hotels said "Both the restaurant and bar reflect a refined sense of taste" and who are we to argue with that. ... more   less
