Located about 6km out from the center of Luang Prabang, Tadthong waterfall and the surrounding property are an undiscovered gem of beauty and peace. The first waterfall you see upon arrival is not the largest you will encounter if you take the 40 minute hike on the stone path that circles the property. The hike can be done clockwise or counter clockwise, with the clockwise direction offering a greater physical challenge. During our hike we could always hear the water and were treated to several different species of butterfly. The jungle foliage is lush and thick, which increases the enjoyment of the walk. There is also a restaurant on site which serves very nice food and drinks. As of now the falls are virtually unknown and rarely visited, although I expect this will quickly change. A British expat by the name of Rob is currently helping out with getting the place up and running. He is passionate about the property and his joy of being there is infectious. He was extremely gracious to my wife and myself during out visit. Our falls visit has been our highlight in Laos to date.
