After spending two nights in the usual tourist spots in Luang Prabang, I decided to have a drink in this interesting looking bar, after passing it the previous nights. And boy, was this a good decision. This bar is, well, just cool.
I walked in, got a seat at the bar, and suddenly the owner, Lisa, introduced me to everyone sitting around me, and I had some great conversations with everyone while having some of the great cocktails Lisa is making (I had a variety of different drinks she recommended and enjoyed them all!). If you travel on your own it is a nice change to experience this kind of welcome in a bar. It was just a great, friendly atmosphere – without the loud music you hear everywhere else – you could listen to more relaxed, independent music.
And then there is this great interior set up – take your time to check out the quotes and pictures.
But the big plus of Icon Klub is Lisa, the owner. She is a wonderful and very interesting person, who really is interested in her guests. I was talking to her for ages during my first night there and I decided to spend my remaining two evenings there as well – I never left before closing time as I enjoyed my time there too much.
Yes - It is not a typical Laos bar, it is slightly more expensive – but the atmosphere, the other patrons and Lisa makes this a very special place, and I have to say it is probably one of my favourite bars I have ever been to (and not just in Laos).
