“Nice Guesthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2009

Stayed here for 4 nights and Ms Rattana and her sister were so hospitable. My spacious single room had a double bed plus full bath and A/C. I paid $20 a night, but LP is generally more expensive than other parts of Laos so it was worth it. It GH is located just a minute on foot away from the night market & center of town, very convenient.

We stayed here due to our late arrival and being “dumped” by a tuk tuk driver. After inspection we thought we would move on to something a little larger the next day.
The room was very small, clean with a/c and fan and the bathroom tiny. Our decision to stay was because of the family that ran it. They were all such delightful people and we spent 7 nights with them.
Breakfast could be ordered and served on their little terrace. Cold water was available and tours could be booked Laundry was done on the premises and returned promptly.
Building noise was non existent when we were there.
My highlight was presenting alms to the monks at 5.30am. Our hostess cooked the rice and had a stool for us to take up to the road and be part of this. The family at Rattana do this almost every morning and often again at lunch time - such generous spirits.
A family member drove us to the waterfalls which houses the Black Bear rescue centre and we spent a full day there at this beautiful place. The waterfalls cascade down into blue pools and an amazing amount of butterflies were fluttering past and sitting on our towels. This is a really special place to come to.
Thank you Rattana family.
Dianne

OK, so they were building a house across the road at the time and we understand that it's easier for the builders to work early in the morning when it's cooler, but it doesn't make being woken up at 5am by saws and drills any more fun. Hopefully it's back to normal by now.
The guesthouse itself is clean, open and airy. The staff spoke good English and arranged transfers and a tour to the fall for us - they also recommended a couple of restaurants that turned out to be great. It's about 5 minutes walk from town, sights and the night markets.

What a friendly and inviting little guest house. It may be basic but it is central and quiet. Having read some negative reviews I was a little apprehensive about the plumbing, but all was fine. Air conditioning and warm showers and comfy bed, although the room was modest.

This has to be the guesthouse with the most wonderful staff in S.E.Asia. Rooms are very inexpensive $8-12 a night and include fan and ensuite. They are bsaic, but have all you need and the staff will happily accomodate any requests. There is a lovely wooden terrace to sit and read on, breakfast is served in the courtyard and it is right in the centre of the old silversmiths area. Forget this place if you want luxury, but for cheap rooms, and the most wonderful staff (Noi in particular is a star!) you cannot go wrong!
