“Very Nice Modern/New Hotel Near Night Market, WONDERFUL Bakery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2011

We were very happy with this hotel. Not sure why it is called the Ancient Hotel when it is quite new, but no problem since was a great place to stay. FREE wireless, we liked the location near the Night Market and found that staying on the top floor in the rear made it quiet enough tho one day there was a large Kareoke (sp?) Party in someones back yard right out our rear window. Nice bathroom, OK bed, very comfortable pillows, strong quiet AC, furniture to sit on was rather uncomfortable as was teak wood. Beautiful wood floors, fair price for a Westerner, OK breakfast, but their best quality believe it or not was a fabulous Bakery ONSITE!! Out of this world bananna bread, muffins, doughnuts, carrot cake, etc for just one dollar apiece. Stayed an entire week and must have gained a pound or two since these cakes were displayed on full tables right on the street every time I came in to go back to my room. On the end of the main drag so a little bit of a hike to the center of town, but not a real issue. Start of the rainy season is Mid to Late April, so be advised it rains every day after then, and the night market folds up at the drop of a hat since their goods are mostly silks and homespun or home made fabric items that would be damaged if wet, so hit the market early if it looks like showers are coming. We LOVE this town, have been here three times and never tire of it. Make sure you bring your own laptop as the picture on the Agoda site and other booking engines shows a computer center with three omputers, but there is only one and it is very slow. We had wonderful WIFI reception from our room. HUGE Sharp Aquos TV with DVD player They rent current movies for just 80 cents a night and they have around a hundred or more titles. Massage services on top floor overlooking street, but not often staffed, and around 3 times the price of the other local massage spots. But, very nice place to have one done. We had foot massages with rose petals in the foot bath, and very sweet girls to do them tho they did'nt speak much English. 20 dollars US for 60 minutes which was still a good price compared to what we would pay back home. Not much to do at night here, so bring plenty of good books if you like to stay up past 8 PM. Friendly staff, nice tour desk onsite, fair prices. A good choice for this lovely town. Jay and John

Be careful when booking this hotel as there are actually 2 Ancient Luang Prabang hotels owned by the same chain. I thought I had booked the hotel reviewed and pictured here but instead we ended up in the Ancient LP at the other end of town. In order to change we were told we would need to pay a further $20 per night and there was no refund of what we had already paid.
I booked the hotel for it's location and WiFi access. The WiFI did not work and the location was inconvenient. The hotel was nice enough but there are many better value for money options in the area.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Ancient Luang Prabang. The staff are very friendly and helpful and my room was amazing ("Monkey"). The hotel is in the perfect location for the Night Market, food stalls, tuk tuks as well as for all the temples and sights. An added bonus is the bakery that is part of the hotel sells cakes to enjoy after shopping in the Market! Only one slight draw back is due to the location it can be a little noisy in the morning but that is a very small price to pay. I recommend this hotel.

Ancient Luang Prabang is a fabulous location. You step out your hotel door into the Night Market! It's a 2 minute walk from the Mekong and tons of tuk tuk's are always waiting. Going to see the Kwan Si Waterfalls is a MUST! The Buddha caves weren't that great, but the hotel can help you book these tours at the reception. The staff were quite friendly. Breakfast was included along with no worry airport pick up and drop off.

Great hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Had to vary our booking several times juggling treks with illness but they were more than happy to oblige. Rooms were large and very clean however a bit noisy.
