We were very happy with this hotel. Not sure why it is called the Ancient Hotel when it is quite new, but no problem since was a great place to stay. FREE wireless, we liked the location near the Night Market and found that staying on the top floor in the rear made it quiet enough tho one day there was a large Kareoke (sp?) Party in someones back yard right out our rear window. Nice bathroom, OK bed, very comfortable pillows, strong quiet AC, furniture to sit on was rather uncomfortable as was teak wood. Beautiful wood floors, fair price for a Westerner, OK breakfast, but their best quality believe it or not was a fabulous Bakery ONSITE!! Out of this world bananna bread, muffins, doughnuts, carrot cake, etc for just one dollar apiece. Stayed an entire week and must have gained a pound or two since these cakes were displayed on full tables right on the street every time I came in to go back to my room. On the end of the main drag so a little bit of a hike to the center of town, but not a real issue. Start of the rainy season is Mid to Late April, so be advised it rains every day after then, and the night market folds up at the drop of a hat since their goods are mostly silks and homespun or home made fabric items that would be damaged if wet, so hit the market early if it looks like showers are coming. We LOVE this town, have been here three times and never tire of it. Make sure you bring your own laptop as the picture on the Agoda site and other booking engines shows a computer center with three omputers, but there is only one and it is very slow. We had wonderful WIFI reception from our room. HUGE Sharp Aquos TV with DVD player They rent current movies for just 80 cents a night and they have around a hundred or more titles. Massage services on top floor overlooking street, but not often staffed, and around 3 times the price of the other local massage spots. But, very nice place to have one done. We had foot massages with rose petals in the foot bath, and very sweet girls to do them tho they did'nt speak much English. 20 dollars US for 60 minutes which was still a good price compared to what we would pay back home. Not much to do at night here, so bring plenty of good books if you like to stay up past 8 PM. Friendly staff, nice tour desk onsite, fair prices. A good choice for this lovely town. Jay and John
