“Cover up..........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Or they will lend you a shawl.
Leave all your belongings in a locked safe.......and no photos!

The condition of the buildings and grounds will not entice you to want to hang around.
It seems the entry fees are not enough to maintain anything here.

Such a shame as there are some really nice artifacts and gifts from many countries but poorly displayed.
The old cars appear to have been dumped in the garage with no real explanation.

Worth 1 1/2 hrs ...............only if you have it to spare.

“The best museum that I have visited in 3rd world country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

You are not allowed to bring in your bag pack, camera and etc except your body when you enter this museum. However, it is understandable after you saw the antique, gift, drawings and collections that keep in this place. So beautiful, refinement and well maintained. This museum is highly recommended!

“Well worth a viit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

This museum is well worth visiting - it provides a glimpse into the life of the royal family in the twentieth century in Luang Prabang. We went with a guide and he explained a lot to us - if you did not have a guide you might miss out on the detail. For example, each king had different swords for his personal body guards. At the back in the garage there are a number of cars used by the royal family, most gifts from various countries.

“Hardly worth the time and money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

The museum has a number of artifacts but it was poorly curated and there is little explanation of the significance of these artifacts. The whole museum takes less than an hour to cover.

Furthermore, they charge you for the tickets at the gate, and only tell you whether or not you're appropriately dress once you have reached the museum building, after which they will charge you to borrow clothes. While they may have perfectly good reasons for enforcing a dress code, the manner in which this was carried out felt like a dodgy scam.

The museum has much promise and potential, but at this point in time I would recommend people give it a miss.

“interesting look back in time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

This museum is interesting just to see how the royal family used to live, more simply than I would have thought. The old Cadillacs were a hoot and the various gifts from other nations.
