“A colonial structure with Khmer influence.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

This gigantic structure clearly shows the colonial influence of a by gone era when Luang Prabhang was the capital of the Lao kingdom. The main attraction is a golden statue of the Buddha believed to be cast in Sri Lanka 1st century AD.

“How it was”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Just the sad history of a royal family caught between western ideas and a changing world and the beautifully elegant palace they built. Absorbing.

“Marvellous collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Probably unique in terms of public display, in that Thailand and Cambodia are still monarchies and their palaces are not open to visitors, and Vietnam has preserved almost nothing from its royal period. A wonderful collection of stuff to appeal to almost all tastes

“A lovely museum in a lovely city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Luang Prabang is a jewel of a place and the Palace Museum is just lovely. I felt a sadness wandering around that it's lasttrue inhabitants' lives ended so brutally and for wrong ideas. I'm so pleased this museum survived the purge so we can see something of Laos' history.
