“Amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Take a boat trip up river to the 1000 Buddha Cave. I think the 2 caves actually have 4000 statues. Many gold and a lot of old wood. The main cave is just above the river, but there is another cave further up the mountaing that you need to have flashlight to see the statues. Take your own or you can rent at the entrance

“Worth It!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014 via mobile

Having seen countless Buddah statues in the well-ordered sanctuary of temples and shrines, I was not prepared for the sight of thousands of Buddahs of every size and shape climbing to the highest reaches of the lower cave. I found it astounding -- a unique window into the culture and devotion of the Lao people. The boat ride there was a bit long, made more tedious by the fact that it was dry season -- the landscape was drab rather than lush. Unless you are looking for a high-altitude climbing experience, do not make the trek to the upper cave. It's a disappointment.

“Not worth the long boat journey”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

The boat ride to the caves takes 2 hours (1 hour return) and to be honest the caves themselves are not that special - the reason why people go is to see the many Buddha statues. Personally I found the boat journey fairly monotonous and would not recommend unless you have a particular interest in Buddhism.

“Do as part of an existing package”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

There are two caves almost next to each other, has hundreds - if not thousands of Buddha statues. Interesting site but quite an effort to get there which I wouldn't make the trip directly for. I went as part of a kayak trip. But it's across the river from an elephant village so can also see if you go to that one.

“Do it. ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

The journey there is more than half the attraction. I did it as part of a trip up to kamu lodge. I loved the early morning misty ride. Extremely picturesque, even cinematic experience. The cave itself is very nice. Try to do an early morning trip it'll be well worth your while!
