This was my third time to LP and I decided to try Kiridara. Firstly, it is a lovely small hotel, situated a little bit out of the old town. Set on a hillside, it is nicely designed. I had a Kiri Suite on the very top floor. The room was very large with comfortable furnishings and a huge bathroom, with a fantastic terrazzo tub.The bed was great, really comfortable. There are many things about the hotel that stand out. Firstly and foremost, the wonderful staff, who do everything to make your time here memorable. They are young and a little inexperienced, but this is no problem. This is Laos after all....They are keen learners and love a conversation. Most have been trained well and always provide service with a smile. Francis, the manager is very professional and very accommodating. His professionalism shines through. Secondly, I have to praise chef Roberto and his wonderful food. Some of the best food I had in Luang Prabang, superbly executed Western and Lao food. Really delicious. If I wasn't staying at Kiridara I would make a special trip for the food! The only negatives I feel about Kiridara are mostly things out of the hotel's control. Firstly, Kiridara is situated on a hill just above a main road. The brochure and website make it seem it is nestled in the mountains. It is not. From the rooms there are lovely views to the distant mountains, but just below that is some ugly buildings as well as a construction site. It's hard to look past this. The worst element is the noise from that site, as well as (depending of time of year), many loud Lao weddings and parties that rock on till almost midnight, booming through loudspeakers. The hotel managers in LP are trying to have this contained, but it may take some time. Again though, this is out of the hotel's control. The other thing I noticed while I was there in December was a lot of burning off around the town every day. This created a strong smoke smell which I found horrible. Again...out of the hotel's control. A few other things - housekeeping could do with some improving. I came back to my room at 1.30 one day and my room had not been made up. Also, towels were not folded and the level of cleanliness was not quite perfect. All in all, Kiridara is a top little boutique hotel, maybe a little expensive for what you get, but the nice rooms, the excellent service and the "out of this world" food by chef Roberto makes it a notch up on many others in LP. Just a shame about the noisy road, construction site, loud parties and smoke.....
