We've been traveling in SE Asia for a few months now and are taking cooking classes in every country we're stopping at. Each have their own format. We wanted to attend the cooking class at Tamarind based on TA reviews, but they weren't offering them in March. We then turned to Tamnak Lao.
The big plus about their format was that they had us cook the recipes by following the cookbook they gave us. They would show us 1st and then we'd grab all the ingredients, go to our stations and follow the recipe. It helps knowing that you can go back home and replicate the dish with the recipe.
The downer was the energy of the 2 chefs. They obviously are bored with doing cooking classes twice a day every day. The market tour was pretty brief, not taking the time to make sure everyone heard what was pointed out. Although they were very nice, the general enthusiasm was pretty low. Luckily we had a good group and entertained ourselves quite nicely.
