“Humdrum market”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

The Laotians need to learn, I am sorry to say. This night market isn't really suited for the variety of tourists, and Laos is losing revenue because of one major flaw! There is NO variety! Every store looks the same as the other! Therefore I only bought ONE item!

... And since I booked to be here for 6 nights, I am getting rather bored! There's not much to do after dinner!

I will write to the government, to try change this!

“Low stress shopping with tasteful choices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013 via mobile

A pleasant experience with no hassles. Prices start high so bargain hard but politely. There are probably other stalls selling the same thing, and they will be back again the next night. There is a lot of Chinese and Thai rubbish,so look for the "handmade in Laos" signs. They cost more but are the real thing.

“Magical Evening of Shopping”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

This is a "MUST DO" while in Luang Prabang, At 5:00pm, a main street is closed down to all traffic and vendors set up their wares. Unlike other markets, the vendors are laid back and allow you to look and examine their products without hassling you. If you find something you like (and there is lots to chose), the vendor is helpful and willing to bargain.

“One of the nicest night markets I've visited”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Luang Prabang's night market is one of the most interesting and least stressful that you are likely to find in SE Asia.
Late afternoon, the stalls begin to set up and each end of Sisaavangvong Road closes to traffic.
We had four nights in Luang Prabang and walked through the market in either direction every evening. We were never hassled by vendors, which is especially pleasant when you've no intention of buying anything. Even when I was keen to buy a scarf, the vendors allowed me to browse through their selection without trying to force anything upon me.
General prices in the market seem to be much higher than most night markets, especially when we arrived in Siem Reap several days later and discovered how cheap the market was there. There didn't seem to be too much room for negotiation, however I was really pleased with the quality of my scarf, which I'm actually wearing while writing this review!
The food section was really interesting and we would loved to have filled a plate, but as this was the beginning of our trip we really didn't feel brave enough to risk it.

“Good quality night markets!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Really good quality night markets. Be prepared to negotiate for items. Nice items but there is some repetition.
