“Good atmosphere and friendly stall owners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

Our group bought plenty of dried fruit from the Night Market. These are local produce , and are coincidentally served as inflight snacks on board Lao Airlines. The Dao Espresso coffee is also very fragrant and certainly a good way to bring the taste and aroma of Lao back home for some reminiscence. Unfortunately, some of the cushion covers I bought were too delicate, and tore with just a little hand wash. Oh well...

“A lot of the same”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

You'll see the same things over and over, so be sure to scope it all out before you zero in on something you'd like to purchase. Bargaining politely is key here. The market is every single night. Amazing how many vendors have babies. Note the morning vegetable market perpendicular to night market street, by the way. It's colorful

“Nice to be left alone to shop, but no need to walk the whole thing. . .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

If you are coming from Thailand, Luang Prabangs night market will shock you. The vendors are very relaxed and you don't have to battle them just to walk by without looking. They offer some decent, local items as well. It isn't a million ceramic buddhas that are mass produced and could be bought any where.

It does seem to repeat its self though (as with most markets). What you see in the first 10 stalls is pretty much the same thing you are going to see throughout the entire market. Great for bartering, but gets old if you make the walk more then twice.

The only reason I gave it a very good instead of an average remark is the food ally that is just off the main street. Full of all you can eat buffets for only 10,000 kip! Also a ton of street food vendors.

“A really nice place to spend the evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

The well set up and brightly coloured markets are a lovely place to spend the evening, with a relaxed vibe and high quality locally made arts and crafts. The store owners are generally all pretty lovely but make sure you haggle as the starting prices are sometimes ridiculously high,
The food is also really good, for 10,000 kip you can fill your plate as high as possible, choosing from a large variety of dishes, the grilled fish and homemade dumplings are also really good, located down an alleyway at the end of the market.

“Revenge of the expolited”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

Last century, imperialist countries purchased the affection of their colonials with cheap goods and trinkets. Now the former colonies seem to be getting their revenge. If you prefer to decorate your life with Proof of Travel furnishings, go for it.
