“Lovely humble people”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2011

Great location

Great staff who are very friendly and keen to speak to you to practice their English!

Breakfast: Very basic.

Rooms: Dark and noisy as wooden floors and doors throughout & guests are very inconsiderate to others!!
Shower is amazing!

They just need to do some sound proofing of the rooms & it would be much better!

Found this hotel after looking on line. The room was fantastic, beautifully decorated with teak floors, green glass tiles in the bathroom and attractive lights. We booked for 4 night at $45/night but had to move after one night because although they charge high season rates, its still low season and this means that building work started on another part of the guest house opposite our room at 7am and was on going all day, so not very relaxing. It was a shame to leave as it is a beautiful place, but slightly over priced given the building site status. Would only recommend this if the building had finished. We then moved to a quite place with similar size room on the river from for $15 less.

This is a great little find. The rooms are very clean and modern. Toilet is in a separate room from the shower. The shower head is the size of a dinner plate and the hot water is never ending. This place is worth it just for the shower alone. The location can't be beat. The staff is very nice though English was a bit of a problem. The only downside is that the walls are a bit thin and I could hear both of my neighbors. But I would recommend this place to anyone. Breakfast isn't included in the $30 price, but there are loads of places to eat nearby. Great find!

There is a lot of attention to design detail and construction-quality in this guest house and everything works smoothly and quietly. The staff are very welcoming although their English skills are a little weak. We intended to stay in a guest house in an old French colonial building but it soon became apparent to us that this was a better - and better-looking - option at a lower price.

$30US a night with Joma cafe nearby - ideal for a Western-style breakfast (the 'house' breakfast is pretty ordinary).

I was very happy to stumble across this place. It's almost brand new, the rooms are very nice, clean, and come with free wifi. The shower, wash room and toilet are all in separate rooms and are clean, modern and Western style. The location is almost next to the Mekong and also very close to the night market, National Museum and Phousi Hill.

The staff was very very genuinely friendly and also helpful.

The only area that could be improved would be offering free breakfast, but I don't think they have a kitchen.

A double room was $30/night.

I stayed at the family operated Pumalin Guest House from 4th to 8th January 2010. A new but nevertheless traditional Lao building, it had just opened. The accommodation is stylish and a considerable amount of thought had been directed during its construction into making guest's stay comfortable and relaxing. I would summarise it as a 'boutique' guest house where the owner and her employees steadfastly go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. If I return to Luang Prabang, I would choose to again stay at the Pumalin Guest House.

Nice new guest house only opened for about a month....we found it wandering around Luang Prabang. Comes with breakfast; great air-con; great shower. Nice cable TV, too. Very convenient to the night bazaar and 100 meters to the Mekong River
