“Our new favourite Indian curry house in SE Asia.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012 via mobile

We tried this place because the prices seemed good for a curry house. We had a chicken tikka masala plus 2 veggie curries, rice and garlic naan. All the curries looked and tasted different- something we don't normally experience in SE Asian curry houses. They all tasted really, really good! The spicy mint sauce is a winner too. If I'm to be totally critical- the naan was pretty dry- a coating of butter would have finished it off a treat. Service was really good and we even got a check back during our meal- this hasn't happened once during our 6 months in Asia! Great no frills curry house.

“Personal and authentic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012 via mobile

We noticed this place when walking through Luang Prabang on the night we arrived. It didn't look like much, slightly worn down, but it had a sign saying pure vegetarian food, and that sounded good to us. When we tried it the following evening, we were quite surprised by the indifferent and borderline arrogant service, the tablecloth was stained, and everything seemed a bit dirty. This wasn't a good start for our dining experience, but once the food was served, we were surprised anew. It was much better than we had expected, and it seemed to be very authentic Indian food.

Since the food was inexpensive compared to many of the other dining options in Luang Prabang, we decided to return the following days. The owner and his family are definitely characters, and they seem to care about their restaurant in a certain way. All the (vegetarian) dishes we were served were delicious, and so was their naan bread. We liked that they always served 1.5 liter bottle of water without asking, and charged the regular 5000 kip for it.

This is a family run restaurant, and with the kids running around, their computer in the back, them doing family stuff along with serving food, makes for an interesting, personal experience. I acknowledge some people probably wouldn't care for this kind of scenario, but to us it seemed sweet and very personal. Coming there several times also made us familiar faces to them, which improved the service - and since the food was so good, we definitely recommend this place as a great, inexpensive alternative for eating out in the otherwise touristy town of Luang Prabang.

“Very good indian food, excellent staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

This place deserves a better rating than it currently has on Trip Advisor. I believe most people don't wonder off the main street so they don't visit this restaurant, and instead go to expensive places like the currently ranked top 10.

Why is this a great place? First of all, the food for 2 people costs as much as the food for just one person at other restaurants. And while other places ask for more money, they also give a small portion of food, and you feel hungry afterwards and want to order one more. Not at Nisha! You get a decent amount of excellent food, add some rice or naan, and you'll feel full for most of the day. The chicken tikka masala is excellent, and you should also try the mutton curry (at other places a mutton is very expensive, not here though) or if you're into vegetarian food then try one of the numerous vegetarian items. It all tastes good, we ate there 3 times and it was the best value we got for our money in Luang Prabang. Also, the coffee and tee are cheaper than at other places.

It's not on the main street so look around a bit. If you go towards the Night market, then at the end of it turn left and follow that street. The staff is all Indian and they speak excellent English compared to other Lao people, so it was also a relief that we could talk to people without using hand signals.

“Great food and cheap! The service was better in Phonsavan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

Bearing the same name as it's sister restaurant in Phonsavan, Nisha boasts mouthwatering authentic Indian cuisine. Of particular note are the delicious samosa and naan bread. Don't expect smiling and friendly service though. The owner's younger brother is much nicer, but he runs the restaurant in Phonsavan!
