“Amazing Lao food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

Believe the hype! This was far and away the best restaurant, and value, we have seen in Asia. A simple item such as skewered grilled pork was delectable with the meat wrapped in lemongrass. Fish steamed in banana leaf with a complex topping was great, and the dessert of purple sticky rice with coconut and tamarind sauce was as good as fine chocolate desserts anywhere (that from a certified chocaholic).

“Best dinner experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

Tamarind is described as "hyped" place in many forums and guide books. It was the best dinner experience for us throughout Asia. Go there! And make sure to reserve in advance as the place seems to be fully booked most if the time.

“Quiet!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

The place seemd to be occupied mainly by westerners and almost full. Though I wanted to try
frog dish but as it took time to prepare , I ordered plain fish dish instead and was immediately served. The dish was tasty but sticly rice served together was not so good i.e a little bit hardened
and could have been made a while ago.The atmosphere though was nice and very quiet.

“Wonderful Lao food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013 via mobile

This was the best food we had in Lao. We had the vegetarian dipping plate as a starter followed by the fish in spices and herbs steamed in banana leaf. The favours were delicious. Not to missed is the sunset cocktail with Lao rice whiskey. Don't drive or cycle if you have one of these! It was cold in the evening we went and we had charcoal braziers under the table so it was nice and cozy.

“Average at best, don't get the hype”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

People are waiting outside this restaurant to get a table - I really don't understand why.

Okay, the sample starters are very interesting, but the rest of the food is just 'ok'. We had the fish in banana leave (the best of the main courses), the pork skewers (tasteless compared to other Lao food), the buffalo meat (nearly impossible to chew) and the frogs (okay, might be my problem that I don't like the complete frog, with head, skin and feet) as well as dessert. The dessert was a complete disappointment! LP offers so many places with very good sweets.

Yes, 'Tamarind' isn't expensive - but I prefer to spend more and get good food, not just the look of a nice restaurant.
