We had an en suite room located on the ground floor with the communal area right outside our door. This did not cause any problem with noise etc.
The room was clean and comfortable with a good bathroom and free wifi.
It was nice to chat over the good breakfast or while having a free tea or coffee to fellow guests or the friendly and helpful owners.
The location was great with easy access to the main street, the river and both the early morning food and evening clothes and handicraft markets.
We also booked the bus to Vang Vieng through the guesthouse and were picked up from there and dropped off at the bus station which is quite some way out of town.
Both this and the pick up service from the airport worked very well.

My wife and I stayed here two weeks into our bike trip through SE Asia. We are now eight weeks in and have stayed in many guest houses and still fondly think back to our stay at Manichan. We had a comfortable room with a clean shared bathroom. The highlight was really the delicious breakfast that others have described with the community atmosphere. We met some wonderful fellow travelers that we may not have met otherwise. LP is a wonderful town and we were so glad to have Manichan's gh as our base and refuge at the end of the day as coffee was provided all day long.

We stayed here for a few days in November, what a lovely town and what a lovely guesthouse to base yourself in.
Easy to walk to markets and to the river, so close to everything.
Peter and his wife were very hospitable and the breakfast was amazing - croissants, muesli, yogurt, fresh fruit, homemade jams, pancakes and everything so delicious.
Room was nice and spacious, locals friendly, overall a very relaxing and beautiful stay. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the manichan-guest house, Luang Prabang in November. Peter and his wife were great hosts. They helped out with taking care of practical issues concerning the trips we planned. They arranged the reservations and transportation. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. There was fresh drinkable water at hand in de room. The breakfast they served was very good, there was even the possibility to get a Laos breakfast with great rice pancakes.

We enjoyed our stay at the Manichan guesthouse. A big room with a very good bed. Peter gave us a lot of information and helped us with our first Asia travel questions. Without his help we shouldn't have seen half of what we've seen now. Linda served us the best breakfast you can imagine. Once you tried the eggs, you won't eat anything else. It's a very good guesthouse near to the morning market and all the other attractions of Luang Prabang.

3 1/2* stars

I thought the guesthouse was very easy to deal with over email during the booking process. Peter was helpful when we arrived and answered any questions that we had. The room was basic and did its job as expected with any guesthouse in the area. Since our room faced a street, sleeping was a bit difficult with the noise...earplugs did help. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bathroom does have a slight sewer smell to it at certain times of the day...we didn't complain to Peter, but I'm sure he would have tried to help if we did. The breakfast was good and the guesthouse provides water and coffee/tea all day long which is a great benefit.
