“Nice Boutique Hotel - Caring and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2011

Had a 4 night stay here in February, booked directly with hotel and paid standard rates.

We were booked into the Superior Suite room, and had probably the nicest rooms in the hotel, directly overlooking the river/road. We were on the upper floor, so shared a nice balcony with our friends next door.

The room is very large, and the building new, with separate rooms for the toilet and the shower/sinks (which is actually my only criticism of the design). The beds weren't the most comfortable I've slept in, but had a great night's sleep regardless.

I've read some comments about the location of the hotel - well actually it couldn't be better. Far enough away from what little action LP might offer up, but only a 5-10 minute walk from all the "action". Or - if you prefer, a ride on the golf cart. Part of the joy of LP is walking around and just taking in the vibe of the place, so forget the golf cart and get there on your own feet!

Breakfast is served in the main lobby (though I understand there are plans to migrate that across the road). Breakfast offerings were sufficient for a long morning of exploring.

Can't say enough about Daniel the manager and Urban the owner. In fact reading all the reviews here there really isn't much for me to add. Unfortunately I got very sick for a couple days and the staff were incredibly understanding and helpful - and I'm very grateful for that. I really feel they would both bend over backwards to assist any guest with any request - the feeling you rarely get when staying at a hotel.

Would I stay here again? Without question, if I ever return to LP.

We enjoyed this hotel and its luxury in the beautiful Luang Prabang. The owner hosts guests to pre dinner drinks which is a great way to meet others. We went to dinner to the Blue Lagoon with guests we met there and hope to keep in touch.

The only thing that wasn't great about my stay in Luang Prabang was that it was too short. Arriving at the ariport being met by friendly staff from MRV taking me there in 10 minutes, and feeling the Lao atmosphere soaking in right away, was ever so relieving after hectic (but enjoyable!) Hanoi. Staff was personal, helpful, polite (almost too much for a Scandinavian!) room (upgraded!) was impeccable and tasteful and I didn't miss anything. LP is so safe that I wouldn't have missed walking from the center through the dark streets (just about 5-10 mins) it was utterly enjoyable. Nice kinda Scandie breakfast, free bicycles. free pickup and delivery to airport, and so forth. Not backpacker price, but worth the money!

My stay at Mekong Riverview was was excellent. The staff and the manager, Daniel, did everything they could to maximize the pleasure of my trip. And Luang Prabang is my favorite place in Southeast Asia and maybe the world!

The great thing about this place is Urban, the owner, and Daniel the manager. They know everything about the place, where to go and not go and how much to pay.

The diwnside is there is no pool and it is a long way to go to the one they recommend. But the compensation for this is that it has one of the best sites in LP right on the Mekong whereas some of the competition are relatively out of town and/or under the flightpath.

Our room was fantastic, over size bed, jacuzzi bath etc. but (contrary to what the website says) no view of the river.

Thank you for the review and kind words. We are not allowed to have a pool due to UNESCO World Heritage regulations. If wanting the prime location on the historic peninsula one must sacrifice the comfort of a pool. We can take you to a nice pool…but it’s not around the corner as the reviewer say. Just to make clear what the reviewer describe. The reviewer stayed in our Suite and they are in the back. Luang Prabangs biggest rooms on prime location but no river view as the reviewer correctly describe (just a side view from the balcony). However the Suites are very private, large and still only 40 meters from the Mekong River. To get the perfect view of the Mekong book a Superior room (not a Deluxe or Suite). Thank you for taking time to review our Suite for the first time on Tripadvisor. Daniel, General Manager.

The Mekong Riverview Hotel is a WONDERFUL hotel. The staff were helpful & professional on check-in, and it got better and better. I was invited to a small 'cocktail' hour by the owner [apparently every 2-3 days they'll organize an hour of good conversation, fueled by excellent wine (Chilean, when I was there) to ensure that people meet and talk to each other if they are interested], and stayed there long enough to attend it twice.

It's in one of the best locations in Luang Prabang, next to Wat Xieng Thong, right on the peninsula near the Nam Kham River joins the Mekong.

Breakfast was amazing - local options including roasted pineapple and bananas with honey, all the way up to eggs and bacon. Plus free-flow milk, coffee, tea, and water, along with sandwich makings (great Scandinavian bread, cukes, tomatoes, real cheese - not Kraft American - & salami), corn flakes and milk or yoghurt. Plus standard jam and bread rolls.

Since they are on the tip of the peninsula, the owner's invested in an electric cart (think golf cart) that the staff will take practically anywhere to drop you off. Several times they ran us to the ATM in town, or to a restaurant, and always offered to pick us up afterwards.

A couple of the staff are former monks from the area wats, and they were wiling to discuss their experiences if we asked. The manager and also owner (both foreigners), are also open to discussing Laos and their experiences there, as well as offering advice on large and small things, if you need it.

My laundry was done for a minimal charge, and I had free wi-fi throughout my visit! One day into my visit, a room with a better view came open, and un-asked and unsolicited, they offered me an upgrade. All rooms had views of the Mekong.

Fabulous beds, imported from Sweden. Massage places just down the street, if you want that type of stuff.

The whole Mekong RIverview experience was so relaxing that I extended an extra 1.5 days, to maximize my enjoyment of it.

The hotel is just off of the main street within walking distance of the city center. The owner, Urban and the manager Daniel (both Swedes), are very nice, knowledgable and really care about the hotel and about the welfare of the guests visit. The small touches were very nice like the cake in the afternoon, free soda in the room minibar and the golf cart transport into town. The rooms are absolutely clean and ample size with good bathrooms. The only negatives were related to sleep, the bed was narrow(150cm) and the walls transmitted noise easily. Fortunately we were moved our second night to a room with a wider bed and a nice view. The hotel combines the conveniences of western luxury with the atmosphere of Laos.

Thank you for the nice review. I would like to comment this review because I think it’s a perfect example of bad communication/trust between travel agent and guests. Guests expect a large room with a perfect view of the Mekong River (Superior) and their agent book them in our smaller room with a queen bed with limited view (Deluxe). Feel free to contact us directly and we tell you what kind of room your travel agent has booked you in. Also if you want to stay with us and get the message “fully booked” also contact us directly, in many cases this is not true. We work only with a few agents that put their clients interests as top priority. What is the point with a booking if the guests are unhappy? In this case we upgraded free of charge after the first night to save the situation. We try to do our best for the guest in front of us but it’s not always possible to make late changes and correct misunderstandings. In short…Deluxe (we have 2) = smaller, limited view and queen bed (still good room!). Superior (we have 10) = large, good/perfect view of Mekong River and large outside seating. Suite (we have 2) = giant room and balcony with garden view (and side view of the Mekong River from balcony). Thank you again for taking your time to review us.
