“Quiet, Cozy and Charming Villa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2011

Villa Suan Maak is a beautiful, charming, and relaxing place to stay. The rooms are cozy and well-appointed; you can tell the owner takes great care in making your stay enjoyable. Towels are provided and rooms are cleaned on a daily basis. The bathroom window didn't have any curtains and though the ground outside (in the back) was above the ground inside the bathroom, I still felt exposed as I was showering. I also had some trouble getting consistent hot water at times. For about $16/night, the A/C room was great value, though, especially with breakfast included. Every morning, a simple breakfast is served in the lovely garden. The grounds of the villa are beautiful, so you can easily spend the afternoon on the garden chairs reading a book or just relaxing. As other reviewers mention, the only downside of the guesthouse is its location, which is a bit farther away from the center, but only a 10-15 minute leisurely walk.

This must be the most excellent place to stay in Luang Prabang! Viang, the owner is a very friendly women and speaks very well English! The rooms are looking good and are clean with a nice bathroom and aircon.

It is also a good place to meet people from all over the world, every single one is nuts about this place! And do not forget to try the breakfast even the coffee is allright! That really is unique in Laos!

The only down side some people may find with this place is the location, its an easy 10 min walk into town but I never saw this as a problem. Also, there is no restaurant on site and most good ones are in town so if this would be an issue for you then take that into consideration. For me it was no problem and I always enjoyed the walk back from dinner.

The staff here are so friendly and very accommodating, and the lovely lady who owns the place sometimes organises BBQ's which are a really nice way to get to know other travellers. There is a nice communal area near reception too where you can just chill out. The free Wi-Fi has the best signal here but any of the rooms in this area get good enough signal too.

The rooms are really nice, with lovely fluffy towels and great housekeeping services. They also have a same day laundry service which is reasonably priced too. The beds might be a little hard for some but I always slept fine and never had a problem with them.

Altogether my stay was lovely and the location was never an issue despite being considered far from town, it really isn't.

Breakfast was also nice, and although options were slightly limiting, that didnt really matter.

Luang Prabang is a great little town as well, so staying here made it all the more perfect.

Will definitely recommend to fellow travellers and will stay here again if i ever get the chance :)

Room Tip: Get room 101-104 for good Wi-Fi signal

We stayed 6 nights in this lovely guesthouse and occupied 2 different rooms. They both were really good compare to the price you pay. The A/C is doing a great job, the sheets are really clean, the matresses are good and you have enough space to drop all of your luggage.

The bathroom is a little bit small, but they are all small in Laos, so no worries here. Just accept it :)

Normally we would have left after 4 nights but my girlfriend went ill after dinner in town. Vieng, your perfectly english speaking host, took really care of her. She is one of the most friendly hosts ever. She even re-arranged our transport to Vang Vieng. Also, she really helps you to find the best plan for you and not for her own interest.

Breakfast was included and was good too!

It is a bit out of town, but it takes you only 5-10minutes walk and it's more quiet here.

Room Tip: Book in advance as you will receive the best room

Lovely room, great breakfast. Wonderful gardens to relax/play in and great Gin and Tonics. Bit of a walk from town for our children but this wouldn't have been a problem if it was just us. Only one member of staff speaks much English but she is helpful and they are all very nice. A homely place.

I stayed in the Villa Suan Maak in December 2010 as part of a longer trip around Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. It was probably my favourite hotel as it was full of character and the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. We were a group of 5 and as a result were given the two rooms on the ipper floor of the guesthouse. These were adjoining rooms, one of which had a little balcony overlooking the front garden. The rooms were very specious with lovely (almost Moroccan style) furnishings. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms felt very cosy and homely. The bathrooms were wet rooms which I'm not normally a fan of, but I found this to pretty much be the norm in Laos. The owner of the hotel, Vianne, was absolutely lovely and recommended The Coconut Garden restaurant to us, which I found to serve the best food I have had in Asia so far. i would definately recommend this hotel (and also the Coconut Garden)!!

The staff here are wonderful, especially Vieng, who I think is the owner and is usually at, or around the front desk. Her english is perfect and she can help set up trips around the area and will even call people in other cities to help with accommodations.
We had planned to stay here 3 nights, but added an extra one. The rooms were clean, had AC, hot water, and your breakfast was also included. Free wifi internet and a computer to use. Sure it is not right in the busy area of the city, but it is QUIET. It is only about a 5 minute walk into the downtown area and well worth it in my opinion to have a nice, quiet sleep.
Excellent value for your money!!
