“Basic clean hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

We stayed here one night in a ground floor room. Staff was very friendly. Room was small, with two twin beds and clean bathroom. Agree with prior reviewer that design of bathroom a little awkward but at least no slime, black grout or open drains. Air conditioning worked, as well as TV. A small bowl of fruit was in the room.

We had a lovely 3 nights here. The rooms are small but the atmosphere is sweet. The rooms were very clean. Staff were very helpful with directions and sights to see. It felt great to come back here each night to the cool, clean air of this hotel. I would stay again.

Very small inn, very small rooms, noisy (if it was not generator, it was a water pipe problem), the A/C did not work properly, had to change rooms twice during a two night stay. The bathroom in most rooms has a very awkward set up. The shower is in between the door and the toilet, even though there are plastic curtains, there is water all over after showering. The people in charge (at the Front desk and managing this place) were unpleasant. It was only after I told them that I would report the problems to the travel agency and write a report on Trip Advisor that their attitude changed somewhat and became a bit more accommodating in offering a different room. Breakfast was basic,The breakfast room felt like a furnace, either the A/C was not working properly or something was wrong.
This place is overpriced and not recommended under any circumstances.
Definitively, not a choice in Mandalay.

On arrival there was a nice sign on a pin-board out the front, welcoming each guest by name. However, the lady at the front desk was very unfriendly - quite a surprise after the friendly staff at the previous hotel we were at. The younger staff at the hotel were extremely polite, but spoke very little english. They would open doors, say "welcome", etc… but found it hard to answer questions.

The shower worked briefly but then lost all water pressure. It is in a very noisy part of the town - lots of dogs barking all night, and what I think was a generator turning on and off all night. There were quite a lot of mosquitos.

We stayed here for two nights and were pleasantly surprised. For 55USD/night it was pricier than other guesthouses that we stayed at in Burma, but overall it represented fine value.
The room felt a bit cramped but had nice touches like carved teak and Wifi.
We also liked the breakfast - a good, but standard spread with eggs made to order (perfectly runny yolks each time), baked goods, and fruit. The best "feature" was free access to the pool at the Hotel on the Red Canal - if you are there from 6:30-7:30 there are also free cocktails. The guesthouse is also well located: within walking distance of Mandalay Hill and the Fort.

we stayed 2 nights on May 18 & 19 at this hotel - first time last time
the manager who welcome you is so unpleasant
the room so small, bathroom dirty, washbasin broken
the worst is the breakfast - toaster is yucky, no choice of bakery basket, sear fruit, only papaya
and this for a superior room at $90
don't go

We only stayed here for one night out of desperation and are grateful it was only one night. The room is expensive for what you get and the staff are so unfriendly and unhelpful its a joke. We witnessed another guest asking the hotel how much a taxi to the airport would be (not an unreasonable query!), and she got rolled eyes, scowls and sulky 'I suppose I'll have to ring the taxi place and find out', then no answer was given and she ended up none the wiser. They were equally unhelpful with us. To add insult to injury we were checking out at 3am to get the train to Hsipaw and they tried to charge us for drinking water from the mini bar which we hadn't used. Not what you need to be arguing about at that time! - they did let us go without paying in the end. When we returned from Hsipaw we stayed in the Smart hotel for 3 nights - and it was a world away in terms of customer service - a bit more expensive but definitely worth it.
