“Comfortable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

We had a comfortable stay at this hotel. Staff were friendly, rooms were spacious and clean and the breakfast was fine. We did not suffer from noise as some other reviewers have indicated - our room was at the front of the hotel and faced the river. The hotel is away from the town centre but this is probably the only negative. The happy hour in the Skybar was a lovely touch and we enjoyed watching the sunset and enjoying a free drink or two. Overall worth a stay.

this hotel in Mandalay was perfect in terms of facilities, location and service. Vast room, overlooking the river, with big bathroom. Decor nothing to write home about but air con and hot water made our stay very comfortable. And the room was spotless. The staff were very welcoming, and professionally trained and the service was great. Additionally we took advantage of happy hour each evening on the roof terrace from 5.30 to 6.30, watching the sunset, and the lights come on. Free cocktails! Very generously replenished. And then of course one would stay on for dinner. The food was excellent and prices very reasonable, not hiked up hotel prices to compensate for free rum cocktails! The breakfasts were really good too. A hotel with high standards.

I spent three days in this hotel. The location is unbeatable - overloking the Ayarwaddy river. Rooms were spacious and clean and the beds comfortable. Hot water available throughout the day was a huge plus.
My room overlooked the city and I had three sleepless nights owing to music from loudspeakers situated just under my window. I mentioned this to the receptionist after the first night and she assured me that this was only for one night - it went on for the next two whole nights barring a respite from 1 am - 5.30 am.
Food was very good at the roof top restaurant. The loudspeaker noise from the surroundings made it impossible to hear the live music. The flies / mosquitos at night were unbearable.

Upon arrival in Mandalay, we proceeded to Mingun by boat to see the unfinished stupa and returned to Mandalay at dusk. there was a glimmering light in Mandalay as our boat approached it and it turned out to be our hotel by the river! the lights among all establishments in Mandalay seem to pale in comparison to those coming from this hotel.

the hotel is of a 3-4 star rating but it seems to be the biggest and the best in Mandalay (based on the short tour we made of the city). it has wifi at the lobby, the rooms are average, the breakfast is standard fare. the difference is that they offer cocktails and dinner (right in time of our arrival from Mingun) and it was at the roofdeck where sunset by the great Ayarwaddy River could be watched at 360 degrees. they provide live cultural music too at that roofdeck.

This is an excellent hotel, of international standing. Service, room, dinner and breakfast, everything was excellent. It is an oasis within this fantastic city. We had dinner on the rooftop, which was a bonus. The nusic was so so but the food was great

What a great place to sit and relax from 5 pm and watch the sun go downs the other side of the river, one of the best sunsets I've seen, magnificent.
Very friendly staff, but the place completely lacks atmosphere & they play terrible music - such a shame it should be the sunset hotspot in town.

That's what we did and we ended up staying for dinner! If you get there early, go across the street and watch them unload boats. Go down in the dirt and take some pics of the locals.
I put a few clips on you tube...enter mgwatl and you will see a few there. Piling wood and river and boats.

I saw another reviewer complaining about the price of beer. He failed to mention at least its the BIG bottle! Plus you get pleasant surroundings and a view!!! We didn't realize happy hour meant free drinks, so they just started to bring them. Whisky sours with lime. Im not much on drinking anything other than beer and wine but they were good! Plus they kept coming!!

Myanmar people are so nice as it is, and now they are bringing me free drinks! It doesn't get much better than this! I had 4 within the hour. By then your feeling EZ so we stayed for dinner.
Yes its higher than street food, of course, but it wasn't HORRIBLY expensive either. We got to see the sun set over the Ayarwaddy and take pics, and overall it was a lot more fun that just sitting in another hotel room elsewhere. I'd be there again for sure if back in Mandalay as overall the city isn't as pretty as you might think, and this was a nice enjoyable oasis from the rest.
