“Very impressed with hotel. Excellent value for money.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW via mobile

Just returned from our stay in Tej Marhaba. Arrived 03.30 check in was absolutely fine. Room was spacious and clean. Bathroom was a little shabby but clean. Shower was really good. Restaurant staff were lovely. Our Waiter for the week was Makram. He was amazing. Had same table every day. Food was ok, good selection each day. The pancake lady was lovely bless her. Also the ice cream man was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble.

We went Half Board and it was really cheap to eat in many of the restaurants/bars. The english pub was great, cost £8 for lunch incl drinks for 3 of us (not each, for all 3).

The pool was lovely, sunbed in same spot everyday was reserved for us.

Beach was good, only had lunch there once as we weren't impressed with the food. Only problem was jellyfish in the sea, which out me off going in.

Not much going on in evening but a good variety of bars in the hotel. There are lots of shops within the complex.

Only had 1 problem with being harrassed and that was in the shop near the pool. Despite telling the man i had no intention of buying anything he got very intimidating & rude. So i never went back again.

The shop which is inside the hotel just off reception was excellent. Can't remember the girls name but she was so friendly and helpful.

Overall impression was you certainly get value for money. Id definitely recommend it and am looking at going back soon.

Me and my girlfriend arrived in Tunisia on the 13/07/14 the first impressions were fantastic. The hotel was clean and tidy and staff were 5 star quality. we stayed for 2 weeks and did lots of trips most of them through a lovely man who walks around the hotel called Captain Smiley. The value for money you get in Tunisia is amazing, But what made the holiday special was the entertainment staff (Animation Team) the night entertainment was basic but lots of fun starting with a live band and finishing with bingo, we met a brilliant entertainer who made our time in Tunisia the best it could possibly be, Sofien Papou he is a very friendly and amazingly funny person to be around.
We would like to say a BIG Thank You to all the staff in the Tej Mahaba for making our time in sunny Tunisia a experience to remember.

I don't usually bother writing reviews for my trips but I just had to for this one given how bad it was! Just recently got back from a weeks stay at the Tej Marhaba. Was very excited as was my first time to Tunisia and I was supposed to be staying in a 4* hotel. It couldn't have been an further from the truth!! More like a 1* or 2*.. The hotel was shabby, old and dirty. The hotel lobby was about the nicest part of it which is very deceiving! The corridors have smelly carpet, the room had a broken bed and smelt damp. The toilet had no light and was dirty and old. The staff on the floor in the dinning room and behind the bar were rude and ignorant. I travelled with two other females and we were treated like crap. The food is bland and boring. The food is at restricted times and the drinks at the bar are tasteless. On many occasions if you had more than one drink you were questioned why. Considering we were all inclusive it was shocking! They are so stingy and treat you like you are not a guest. The Tunisians on a whole were alright. They do try to rip you off quite a bit so make sure you are weary. They also hassle you a lot. There were no women outside of the hotel!!! Be careful with your stuff in the hotel as we were told that the house keeping steal. The pool was dirty and mouldy. It was just a very poor hotel that clearly was not being looked after! ALSO the wifi is terrible!! cant get on to it until late after 11pm.... The best part about the whole trip was the beach. Although it was still poorly maintained the staff assigning the chairs were sweet and helpful as long as you tip. The sea and sun was beautiful just be weary of the jelly fish! the beach was about 5 min walk across the main road from the hotel. Well worth it! spent most of our trip on it! You do get drinks and food as there is a beach bar although its at restricted times... food also isn't very good at all there either!

I have just returned back from here today for a 2 week stay and here is my full review.

The transfer from enfidha airport is around 45 minutes maybe a bit longer depending on other hotel drop offs. Be careful when you come out the airport as porters as ready to pounce on you to take your cases and will not leave without a tip.

On arrival walking into the foyer it looks really nice and very spacious. We arrived at 3.30am and there was a porter waiting to take your cases so be aware to keep them yourselfs otherwise he will want a tip off you. Safes are available for 50 dinar and are in a room behind the reception desk which I found strange.
There was a money exchange scheme avaliable from 10am - 12pm and then from 5pm - 7pm

Our room was on the second floor over looking the pool area and had a sea view (254) this room was very spacious and the bed was a kingsize bed and very very comfortable. There are stains all over the floors on the carpet but this is like this around the whole of the hotel due to a privous flooding they had. The maid came in every day and made the bed and hoovered the floors and mopped the balcony. Clean towels were given every day and fresh bedding is changed once a week. She was very nice and well mannered. We had a party of 4 and tipped her 30 dinar on the last day and she was very grateful and also shed a tear so it must of meant alot to her.
I him 20 dinar) they hardly have any bowls for soup and cereal and you can be waiting for up to 15 mins for these. They must only have around 20 spoons in the there also as we always were waiting for the waiters to fetch you one. We got fed up waiting and went hunting for them ourselves.

For breakfast there isn't a brilliant choice although the pancakes were brilliant but you can be queuing up to 20 mins for them but we'll worth the wait. (apricot jam on these is a must as they tasted great and also on the toast. Fresh fried eggs are made and fresh omelettes too where you can pick want you want to have in these e.g cheese onion etc.

The dinner is fine and is catered for all nationalities so you will defiantly be able to find something you like to eat. There's chicken, Turkey, beef, lamb, pasta chips and pizza. Fresh salad. Sometimes chicken pie which was very nice with mash potato.
The soups varied from chicken, vegetable, potato and I even saw pumpkin soup which I gave a miss.

My girlfriend went down with out towels for a sunbed at 7am everyday and at first the sunbed man kept pestering her for a tip all the time and even tho she told him we would tip him.at the end of the holiday he kept asking her to the point where she got that frustrated with him she got her dad to go down with her and he soon stopped hassling her. We did tip him 20 dinar on our last day. The pool was big enough for people to have linos and ball games. There were broken tiles at the bottom of the pool so be careful where you stand in there as I was playing waterpolo and sliced my foot open on them. I reported this to repeception but nothing was done about it.
There was about 5/6 people who worked around the pool for the sunbeds and when somebody had left there sunbed they were quick to run over to the bed and take the mattress off them so they could try and get more tips off people for them. This happened all the time and annoyed alot of people. One of the guys who works in this department who has his hair brushed back and wore big sunglasses all the time spent all day perving and ogling all the girls and was always sat on there sunbeds talking to them trying to get there phone numbers and getting them to go out with him. I thought that was disgusting as did many others. (you will no who I mean when your there, you can't miss him)

Indoor pool.

There is an indoor pool which has a jacuzzi that was never turned on until my last day and was good. The water in here was the red hot and felt like you couldn't breathe in there. Also there was 1 treadmill and 2 exercise bikes in there to use for free as the gym was closed due to renovation.

Pool bar.

This is the best part of the hotel. All the staff who work in there are amazing, very well mannered and helpful and always served you with a smile. The twins who work there (mohammed and semah) were brilliant and work very very hard as do the rest of them. There was always a que there at around half 2 when you could get pizza, baguettes (cheese) (tuna) and also chips and ice cream and was avaliable from 9pm until 1am. They were all on the ball and got orders out very quickly. They are much more helpful than the barmen in the foyer who were all miserable and very slow.

Main bar

As said above these guys were terrible really slow at serving and the que gets so long you can be waiting up to 30 mins just to get served because of this. They prioritise the people who pay for there drinks instead of the all inclusive. Note if you are all inclusive they will NOT give you a pint of beer unless you pay for it. The cocktails werent brilliant and the sizes of the alcohol in your drinks are like a cap size so GO TO THE POOL BAR FOR YOUR DRINKS.

The entertainment wasn't great but did improve over the second week.

In the morning French bowls is first thing followed by aqua aerobics. In the afternoon there is waterpolo followed by killer darts. There is table tennis which is free. 2 pool tables 1 dinar, air hockey 1 dinar and a pin ball machine 1 dinar.

In the evening the entertainment was awful, 2 men came in and did live music which was boring and not good at all. The best part was bingo which was at 10pm. Karaoke on a Tuesday and tuisian dancers on a Thursday that's it.

There is a shopping centre attached to the hotel but very over priced and most of the time the shops weren't open.

The beach is across the road which is a 5 mintue walk at most and has its own bar there and serves pizza and baguettes throughout the day.

All in all it was a good holiday and relaxing and very very hot. I may return again but not anytime soon.

Just returned from a week stay. Reception staff fine with us, no problems whatsoever. Room was ok, beds abit hard for us. Maids brilliant. Food was very good, we have stayed at Thomson Platinum hotels before and the food here was much better and our waiter looked after us very well. Beer was abit warm sometimes but bar staff very friendly and obliging. Never had a problem getting sunbeds regardless of what time of day we went to the pool and there were five in our party. Entertainment was abit naff, especially in the evening but they did their best with only two of them. Recommend British bar for a lovely cold beer or cocktail but this is not part of the All Inclusive package. The music should be played all day at the pool in our opinion (I understand why they switch if off at lunchtime until about 2.30 to maybe encourage people to relax in the shade or go indoors) but it should be left on for the rest of the time the pool is open, it adds to the atmosphere. Didn't enjoy the beach, too hot and abit mucky. Overall a relaxing week was had by all. You get what you pay for - if you want more than this hotel has to offer then you have to pay for it. This hotel is very good value for money.

After reading reviews online I was rather worried about staying at the Tej Marhaba and I had every reason to be! Despite going with an open mind, we were very disappointed with our time here and can't believe I spend my hard earned money on it.
Reception staff spoilt an otherwise pleasant entrance into what is a grand foyer, they were unhelpful and everything was a trouble to them, it took a while to get checked in because of this!

The room was the plus point of the stay, it was spacious and the bed was huge and comfy. Cleanliness wasn't an issue, though we did find a cockroach in the bathroom.

The pool area was also great, seemed very clean and good atmosphere, however if you don't go down and reserve a sun bed before half 7 then you won't get one! This was sometimes frustrating as there clearly isn't enough sun beds to go around.

The food was the worst part by far!! This ruined the holiday for us, the buffet restaurant felt like school dinners, huge queues, dirty plates and very poor quality dishes! Hardly any meat, just indescribable offal floating in watery sauces! The salads were not fresh looking at all. I love to try new food and will eat most things however I couldn't even bring myself to try some of the food on offer here! Absolutely shocking! Breakfast was the same, the only nice things available for me were the pancakes in which I had to endure a long queue for and the orange juice which was an extra charge of 2 dinars... Not happy.

The shopping centre was empty and creepy! Hardly any shops and always deserted.

Location of the hotel is close to the beach which is nice but in terms of the city, the hotel is quite far away from the medina. We found it very hard in finding a nice restaurant, if you want fine dining then Sousse
Is not the place for you! We eventually found a nice Italian at the end of the week on the seafront, called Caruso cafe bar, lovely risotto and very cheap too.

Overall I defiantly wouldn't return to the Tej Marhaba or Tunisia, we feel ripped off but it was a learning curve nether the less!

Sorry we didnt meet up to your expectations. As this is high season and the hotel is full there are unfortunately queues sometimes. We are aware of this and will be introducing a new system in our restaurant to ensure maximum service and satisfaction for all our guests. We do try to cater for all nationalities in the restaurant . We have a chicken/ turkey dish, fish dish and meat dish every night aswell as pizza, pasta, a variety of vegetables and a selection of salads. Our buffet is strictly controlled by the HACCP system in place in our hotel and which is regularly monitored by all the tour operators. We thank you for your review.

Lets start right at the beginning, when we got off the plane & onto the coach,,
Firstly, don't fy there from Britain after 19:00hrs,
we got there about midnight & by the time we dropped off at all the other hotels it woz 02:15am. 1 lost day before we start.
Next, once on the coach the Thomas Cook rep said, Quote..please tip the driver with any loose change as its part of his wages. Unquote.
Well correct me if i am wrong, but don't we all pay for transfers, we paid £15 each way, so that's £60 his company got just from us, i woz sitting in the front seat & it woz unbelievable just how many were sucked in, some even dropping a fiver,, the best bit was he hardly ever got off the bus, staying back to count how much he got on each drop. The holiday makers were pulling their own cases from the boot.
I thot it woz a one off, but even with a different rep going home, he also asked all on the bus to please tip the driver as its Quote,, part of his wages, unquote. And again he never got out at the Airport, we all searched for our own cases, Don't these people realize they have already paid for transfers, how many of these who tipped, tip our coach drivers in Britain a fiver, not many i can tell you as i was a coach driver for 15yrs,
mostly at week ends, and i woz helpful at all times.
Wonder if Thomas Cook will say something when reading this.
I will start with the good stuff, just to get them out of the way,, as there isn't many.
The foyer is big & looks very fancy,(more about this later), The outside pool is a decent size & looks amazing especially from the 7 floor,(more about this later), we had room 719, very big & spacious, it was facing the front which suited us as the sun is still shining on the front balconies at 18:00hrs, rooms overlooking the pool are in dark shade nearly all afternoon. The ice cream is the best ive ever tasted in all the countries ive visited in the last 20yrs. We kept two bath towels aside for the sunbeds from day one & the maid kept putting in fresh ones every day & all we did was put the one's we had at the pool on the floor at night & take the fresh ones again, she new what we were doing & was ok with it,,(we did leave a tip).
There is a terrific inside spa on site, at no extra charge (more about this later).
Well there goes the good stuff,, now for the not so good, some of you will not believe me about what u are about to read, as other reviewers will tell you it woz fantastic & cant wait to go back, the reason they wont tell u about the bad stuff is because they want to tell everyone they had a good time, eating out, getting their sunbeds booked at 7am by tipping the staff, going to the beach, some don't drink so don't have to queue, ect, so these people cant inform you The Real Truth,, read on.
Breakfast is fine if u want to queue for 10mins for ur fried egg, or omelette, this is after u find a table, clear it, get ur own cutlery, try finding some salt, you still have to get ur tea or coffee, after u find a clean cup.. the rest of breakfast doesn't deserve a mention.
At lunch time sometimes there are no soup bowls, that could take u another 5mins+.
All the above happens at Dinner as well, you might get a table cleared for u if u tell the waiter he'll get a tip when u leave, but i don't believe in such methods, we should expect a clean table with cutlery as standard, not pay extra to make sure u get it.
The items for eating is the same every day, consisting of Chicken, Turkey, some kind of dark beef sailing in liquid & mostly a bit chewey, Rice, Pasta, Some sort of Fish, apart from the odd thing, what you get at lunchtime is what u get at Dinner.
The sweet section is the same all wk, lots of diff stuff tho, & to be honest i loved the mini vanilla slices, i had 3 every nite.
This 4 star hotel allows punters to walk in for any meal with pool shorts, the odd vest, & 3 times we saw people with nothing on there feet at Dinner,
my wife (as women do) noticed lots of people wearing the same clothes for 2 to 3 days, & going for meals.
The bread table is right next to the pizza queue,so when u want to cut bread u have to squeeze past the waiting line, even then ur lucky if there's a cloth to hold the bread, most days peoples bare hands have been on most of the banquets. How hygienic is that for a 4 star. U wont believe this but one day people waited for bread to arrive for over 20mins, this wos after telling atleast 4 different waiters.
The Foyer only has 1 bar, & only 1 serving, so as u can imagine most of the time there is a queue which takes on average 10mins standing, when you do get your drinks they come in all shapes and sizes of glasses & plastic beakers, twice i had wine in a beer glass as that's all that woz available at the time, the drinks are nearly always warm, & if ur lucky to get an ice cube its melted within 3mins. The beer isn't on tap, just bottles, so they're warm most times also. The cocktails are as basic as u can imagine, & limited choice.
Any live entertainment is in a corner so although the foyer is large only the sofas that are close will be able to see it, sofas & odd seats dotted around are obscured by the bar or big pillars.
The pool as mentioned is brilliant, except the hotel allows blow up beds in it, people throwing balls from one side to the other, & grown up children (adults) trying to hit small hard balls back & forth with a stupid large bat. One day someone will lose an eye.
The hotel also allows drinks in glasses be be taken out around the pool area, how crazy is that for a 4 star, i woz there 1 wk and saw one child with a cut toe, (lucky) & heard about 2 others who needed treatment.
The lovely Free spa is being ruined by allowing it to be used as a children's pool, under 12s running around shouting & screaming as they do, also the odd rubber ring in it, one day a 12 yr old was kicking a large football against a spare wall for over 20mins with no attendant in sight. There's a sign saying children must be accompanied by an adult, again nothing done, The Jacuzzi never had the bubble machine switched on all wk, i reported it on 2nd day to reception but nothing done.
Shopping centre attached is very expensive, never saw anyone buying not once, shops outside and round the hotel are very scarce, all u women out there, forget it, keep your money for Spain.
I'm no prude, & i know the difference between good, medium, & bad, i tell it as it is, that's why my reviews are all titled 'THE REAL TRUTH '
Its not about the staff who are being nice, ect, just recently a reviewer said the guy who changes your money is very friendly & nice spoken, when another dozen have mentioned he was rude, uncaring, & with a couldn't care less attitude. Who do u believe, perhaps she happened to get someone different that day, she also didn't mention any of the above, but with all that was going wrong she just had to see something, so why not mention it in the same review..?
TO SUM UP,,, I expect much better for my hard earned money, after being to Tunisia twice, & sharm, ect I've had enuf, i will NEVER,repeat NEVER be back to similar places like this, no way is this a 4 star, never will be a 4 star, & the way i mark things, by dividing the total of plus's, by % of minus's the star total i would rate is 2•5,, that's two & a half.
My honest advice is DONT book this hotel, read carefully the bad review's, these are the real honest ones, dismiss the good one's as these are the ones that people want u to believe, for some reason or another, i don't know why anyone could do that..
Stick to Cypress,, Crete,, Rhodes,, Corfu,, Malta,, Tenerife,, & my favourite in summer only.. Cala D'or in Majorca,, Hotel Tamarix,, not forgetting the Rey Don Jaime hotel in Santa Ponsa..Majorca,, both can be viewed on trip advisor under the title of The Real Truth. Ta for reading this short review.. Ronnie Lothian Dundee Scotland.

Fried eggs and pancakes are cooked to order so unfortunately you do end up queueing, but a lot of our guests feel its worth it. Besides the all inclusive bar in the foyer there is also the all inclusive bar / restaurant by the swimming pool, which remains open until 01.00h We do try to cater for all nationalities in the restaurant but there is always a fish, meat or chicken dish aswell as a choice of vegetables, show cooking, pizza and a variety of salads. We do have a lot of guests who are truly happy and satisified with our hotel and who return many times. Thank you for your review.
