“Second time back.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

this year was my second year back to tej marhaba overall it is a nice hotel and the animation guys are top notch. The bar staff can be rude at times but bare in mind its ramamdam so they are tired. All in all a good holiday was just not keen on the food but each to their own.

GOOD
-you always got a sunbed and there were always places to go around the pool no matter what time of day you went.
-the food although there was no variety there was always something good to eat.
-room, it was nice and simple with a tv that had two english channels one of which was movies which was nice in the evening if you just wanted to sit in your room.
-excursions, we did the sahara explorer excursion which was the best thing on our trip, we got to travel quite a bit of tunisia and even got to ride on a camel and I would advise anyone to go on this, it is worth the money and was an amazing experience.
-hotel had its own beach, although the beach itself was very busy you could have a sunbed by the beach if you wanted instead.

BAD
-we had no air-con in our room and had to complain many times for it to finally be fixed.
-no fridge, although this isn't a major issue it would have been nice to keep cold bottles of water in there.
-swimming pool, it was a nice pool but was very rough around the edges as it had stones sticking out, apart from that it was just a normal outdoor pool.
-room, we arrived very early in the morning and it was very unpleasant to find that no one had flushed our toilet, we then later realised that it took many attempts flush our toilet and it kept getting blocked.
-entertainment, there wasnt any.
-harassment, I went to the beach on the first day to see what it was all about only to find men try to sell me head garments and when I said no he actually followed me to the hotel, lucky enough there was a nice man who told me to leave me alone and I was very thankful, my advise is not to go anywhere by yourself.
-the toilets around the hotel were vile, most of them had no toilet roll and not cleaned, if you passed them the smell was horrendous, my advice is to use your room toilet.

OVERALL
I did enjoy my holiday but I dont think I will come back to Tunisia as I got quite bored at times as there wasn't much to do outside of the hotel and I would have liked to do some more activities but there wasn't any offered. From England it took us 2hr 40mins to get to Tunisia. We went with Thomas Cook which were very helpful and I will probably use them again. I hope I haven't put anyone off but I guess you will have to see yourself as everyone has a different holiday.

Room Tip: choose a sea view, it is beautiful and the sun was always shining.

Sometimes the air conditioning units can be a bit temperamental but we do fix them as quickly as possible. The swimming pool has an uneven surface at edge, solely to prevent accidents happening, people with wet feet slipping etc. Entertainment comprises live music, karaoke and tunisian folklore. The toilets in the hotel lobby are cleaned regularly. Thank you for your review.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Just returned this evening from the Tej Marhaba. 14th July to 21st July 2013.
Was an excellent weeks holiday for the price we paid. We were half - board.

The Room - the room was lovely, we weren't pool side but on seeing the poolside rooms open, we would say that the rooms at the 'front' of the building are much bigger as the building is an arc shape. The rooms style wise are a bit tired and could do with a wee revamp. Put the "do not disturb" sign out if you don't want to be awake before 8. Air con a bit temperamental but worked when it needed to.

The lifts - the lifts to the right of reception were rather temperamental.

The food - I am the fussiest of eaters ever and I managed to find something different to eat every evening, the restaurant staff were excellent. Our waiter was a lovely man, very attentive but mutters "good service" under his breath all the time (not sure if he knows he does it!) but if you get him he is brilliant. The freshly made pizza is phenomenal! The breakfast was a little bit limited, hot dogs and salad items, a bit confusing so stuck to bread and crepes which were made fresh in front of you.

The other hotel services - tennis costs 10TND, indoor pool stunning, must be up early for sunbeds and it costs 1TND tip (well worth it). Beach staff are excellent, pizza and drinks available at pool. We always made sure we tipped the staff, (they really appreciate it!).

Tour - we booked a Thomas Cook trip to El Djem, to the amphitheater, and mosaic museum, our tour guide was brilliant. His English was superb, he was very, very knowledgeable and able to express his knowledge in a way that is clear to all on the trip (even in German!). It was great.

The Beach - beware of sharp things in the sand.

Tunisia - They drive like crazy people, there are no rules on the road, it can be quite smelly in places, there doesn't seem to be the same standards in building and cleanliness as the UK. Litter strewn along the sides of roads, carts pulled by very ill and smelly horses, felt very sorry for the poor horses who are out in the heat of the day with no apparent water (very skinny and sad looking!). Tunisians in places can be rude and pushy, they toot their horn at you walking along the street to shout out their window to ask if you want a taxi. The Medina in places was interesting, rotting goats heads and fish all over the floor and in buckets in the sun.

If you stay in and around the Sousse area, remember how much you are paying for your holiday and don't expect too much. It is a great hotel, great value for money, go with an open mind and enjoy your holiday.

Just returned from my first holiday in Tunisia and we stayed at the TAJ MARHABA Hotel. It was a lovely place in the main areas but it unfortunatly has its downfalls in the room areas which really lets down this hotel. On our third day here we woke up to our bathroom flooded by bursed pipes outside the room and upon talking to other guests has been a major problem for a few years, but upon reporting this to reception we were moved to another room later that day, the only other negative point is the lack of entertainment in the evening the same two guys playing guitar and snare drum with symbols every night over tracks that hade already been released. Now more possitive news the food in the restaurant was fab the waiters were very atentive and the entertainment team were very good with the kids aswell as adults activities ranging from darts, water polo, french bowls just to name a few, but overall a very nice holiday and we will go back to Tunisia in the very near future

Room Tip: even numbers have pool and sea views odd numbers are family rooms overlooking main road and tennis...

Glad you enjoyed your stay despite your flood. We are in the process of replacing all our water pipes so these incidents will not re- occur. Thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future.

Nice weather, really hot!
But soo unhappy staff in the bar, sometimes didn't want to take any drinks cos they are not pleasant.. :/ and my advice don't go out of the hotel... Its not a city- its a scrapyard.. But overall hotel was good, nice and friendly cleaning staff :) Food was quit good and tasty.. And the best thing was that you can have a food and drinks on the beach!

Just returned from tej marhaba. Don't know what all the fuss is about my partner and I had a fantastic week in this hotel. Our room was always spotless and our maid made lovely designs with our bed every day, swans made out of towels on the bed. The staff were very friendly to us. A tip does go a long way.the beach staff were friendly and everyday they got your sunbed for you and brushed away any sand on them before you sat on them. I am quite a fussy eater but found something to eat every evening. All in all we could not fault the hotel or the staff and would definitely return to this hotel. Your holiday is what you make it.

Room Tip: Ask for pool or sea view. We stayed on the 2nd floor

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Tej Marhaba between the 6th - 20th July. All inc
After reading reviews on here we were slightly put off but thought we'd make our own minds up, as we no people like to moan on things like this.

When we arrived in the hotel our cases were taken off us straight away, we then had to wait up stairs for the porter to bring them up he then put his hand out asking for a tip when he left.

Room - We had a pool view room which was lovely! The room was quite spacious with a very large (hard) bed and a fridge in which was nice. The toilet flush didnt work which we reported straight away after about 2 hours and 3 different times people coming back the toilet was finially fixed. The aircon was great very cool, how ever it makes an herendous noise!!! it is impossible to sleep with it on. There were also large stains on the carpet.

Pool - The pool is tiny compaired to the pitcures, also you cant sit on the side of the pool as it is very rough on the edges we did cut ourselves a few times! The fountain wasnt on the first week! it came on the second week a few times. If you want a sun bed you have to be down by the pool area by 8 am!!!! or you will not get one.
There is an indoor pool which is very nice!

Food / Drink - We ate pasta and chips for 2 weeks for dinner there is no choice. Waiters in the dinning room will ignore you if you dont tip them, we wernt getting drinks till the end of our meals! we'd ask for icecream at the end of our meal and not even receive it! So just walk out - ( one day it took 20 mins ) Drinks are served in plastic tea party cups and you have to sign for everything you have?!!! We ate out 3 times.
If you are a girl you will get served straight away. The bar staff also made comments to me when i wasnt with my boyfriend about wanting my number!!!! made to feel very unconfortable at times.

Entertainment - What enteraintment? there is none at all we were in bed by 9 pm every night!!!! The most enterainment we saw in 2 weeks was watching water polo in the pool in the day times!

The main road to the beach - I have read reviews of this very busy road and just thought it was people being picky! I was wrong its a extremly busy main road which is very dangerous to cross!!

Cleaner - The clearner was great! always changed our towels and made shapes with the bedding which was nice. How ever she did come in the room when ever she liked some mornings at 7 am! she'd walk in then just walk out again after seeing us in bed?! 7am really?!!!

There is nothing to do around the hotel, so for young people ( 21+22) like ourselves it was very boring. Tunisia is a dump a taxi driver spat in my boyfriends face and grabed his top over confusion of a taxi price. There are horse and carts which go around the streets, its very sad the horses look so ill and un cared for!

I would not go to tunisia as a group of girls! its very intimidating with all the men around just staring at you. Or go outside the hotel by yourself. The amount of people that try to offer to sale you things in the street saying its free but its not really as soon as you take it they will demand money.

We did have a great 2 weeks as the sun was shinning constantly and we were in each others company. How ever I dont think id return to Tunisia or this hotel.

Our pool length is 25 metres so its not that tiny. It does have a rough surface around the edge but this is to prevent people slipping when their feet are wet. We do have a large variety of foods in the restaurant for dinner which includes fish dishes, turkey or chicken dishes, meat dishes, vegetables, pizza aswell as pasta and chips. The entertainment programme includes live music, karaoke and tunisian folklore. There are also many discos and nightclubs within walking distance of the hotel. Thank you for your review.
