The animation team make this hotel!, Fifi, Max, Michi, Anis, Steve, Drogba & the animation manager all work really long hours but never complain & are always happy!, I miss you all and will see you very soon!

This is a lovely hotel, a high standard of cleanliness. Friendly staff and nothing is too much trouble. The food has improved over the years that I have visited, and I feel the restaurant is of a high standard. One huge draw back. ..long queues and very rude , ill manned eastern european holiday makers. It was a case of eat everything in sight, even if they didn't want it and queuing is something not recognised.I have visited this hotel for many years , but sadly the above mentioned are giving it a bad name and many british holiday makers are avoiding such a great hotel. The staff were in agreement to the brits complaints. ..but overall it is worth a visit there.

When deciding what to write in a review, sometimes I think keeping it simple says it best!! For what we paid for one week all inclusive in October I was delighted!! The staff and service are first class, the people in general are very friendly and accomodating. The place is very clean and the food choice is brilliant. Yes the rooms are a bit tired, but they are very clean, and as you are only there to sleep it really is not an issue! We would gladly come back for another visit.

4th time in Tunisia (Sousse) and once again had a fab time. As in the title it is what you make it. The hotel is probably 3* but the attention to customer is 4*. It is certainly value for money and any problems you might have are quickly resolved. Clean, friendly, some waiters can be a little too familiar and a little cheeky 'expecting' tips in order to be on the ball with your drinks. The hotel itself is typical Tunisian style with a sociable reception area, a bit of gentle music in the evenings and the bar for drinks and tea/coffee open 10am till midnight.
The animation team are pretty good in their effort to entertain. They certainly work hard and are very keen to keep you laughing. I have a very 'simple' taste in humour so found even if it was bad it was good :-)
Max is adorable, even in a dress! Steve is always keen to dance, had many dances with him. Michi also looks good in a dress and has a mahboul sense of humour. Drogba...fab DJ in the hotel and night club. And Anis also funny man and wonderful dancer. All are very good and patient with the children.
Fifi in children's club entertains with face painting and games and walks on the beach for the kids.
The Thomson staff were fab...Thank you to Alice and Erin and Sarra for all your help and support with my 'problem'!
The local area is interesting and tours to places easily accessible via the rep or local guy by the pool, or take a trip to Port El Kantaoui for a boat trip booking direct to save half the cost. Taxis are very cheap (only 6 dinar) ABOUT 10/15 MINS to the Port or the other direction to Sousse town (Medina) 2.5 dinar to £1. The only expensive thing really is the alcohol outside of complex but similar prices to UK.

Tour Khalef is a 3 star hotel join with Mahaba beach hotel which you can use their facilities but not food or drinks. We stayed during Christmas until 5th January so have seen it all.

Typical large hotel complex-lobby is Tunisian decor-Not good signs post but you will eventually work it out.
Room- very basic nothing special about the room- asked to stay in pool view, if you on the other side you won't get the sun on your balcony at all.
Food- you will have your table number fixed a whole duration of your stay, same waiter to serve you drinks and clear the plate away. We tends to tip for the good service in UK but over there you tip if you want extra good service. I tip on day one 1 or 2 dinars better than nothing. You don't need to tip all the time. It's 2.7 dinar per pound so it's nothing to give to the staff who serve you 3 meals a day.
Food is nothing exciting after 7 days- pasta pizza soup Tunisian dish, salad bar, fruit and cake ice cream. You can't expect alacarte or gourmet food on £9 all you can eat back home? We are not a fuzzy eater so we get by with what was there. Food is not served 24 hours so breakfast is 6-10 then lunch 12-3 pm then pancake serve at the lobby bar 2-5 pm dinner serve at 6-9 pm.
Swimming pool- it's too cold to swim at this time of the year, although it was hot enough to sun bath. I had my son to wear wetsuit as I know he will go in regardless of it being cold. We use indoor heated swimming pool at Mahaba beach everyday. You will need your own beach town.
Beach- white sand but not that clean- we went for a walk and got hassle by local try to sell cigarettes and all sorts. You can just ignored them but they there to make a living so every time you out of hotel ground, they will approach you.
Entertainment team are there to entertain guests, kids and sell bingo tickets, t shirt etc. They run mini disco for kids 8.15-9 pm then adult show from 9-10. During the day time they will try to get you join in games of ping pong mini golf etc. Again it's a hotel run entertainment, you must not expect west end standard. My son enjoys himself regardless. Teams are friendly and they will leave you alone if you made it clear that you don't want to join in. They weren't aggressive people like other reviewed I read before. You must understand,if that was their job, they had to do it. You can politely say no.
Other guests- This hotel cater for guests from various nationality-mostly OAP from Gemany and France who there for sunshine and foods and drinks so they treated hotel like there retirement village. Russians tends to be teenagers on holiday. UK guests are family with young children or couple.
General- taxi to medina or port kantaoui is 5 dinar. Try to have exact money to give to taxi driver.
Don't stop and talk to anyone that said they work in the hotel you stay as they will looked at your wristband and chat up to you. All they want is to take you to the carpet shop of their friends to get commission if you buy somethings. Do the tours to get you out to see places.
Tunisia as a destination is a run down place, locals are too desperate and hassle tourist are not a right way to go. They need to to be educated but I don't think government are there to guide them. There are no real charm about it compared to Morroco. However if you looking for 3hours flight, cheap holiday, guarantee sunshine, basic food, basic room. It's the place to go.

Room Tip: High floor, pool view room

This hotel does exactly what it says on the tin. It is a cheap hotel which gives great service, food and facilities. There are a lot of different nationalities so if you do not play well with others this is probably a hotel best avoided. There are plenty of facilities as you can go between this hotel and the property next door where the flumes are and a bigger and noisier pool area is available. Personally we preferred the smaller, more personal, pool at the Tour Khalef. The children in our group chose not to participate in an kids club activities but there certainly appeared to be plenty to do if they had wanted to. The rooms were basic but comfortable and clean. The restaurant offered a wide variety of food to suit every palette, from chips and pizza for the unadventurous, to local specialities. The staff at the hotel were wonderful with the exception of the guy who hired out the pipes in the evening - he never smiled and had a way of making you feel you were inconveniencing him at all times. Everyone else, the waiters, bar staff and entertainment team were brilliant. Yes, we did tip but the staff did not just expect it and went above and beyond to provide you with top class service for very little remuneration. The kids in our party loved the hotel, the pool and all the activities around the pool. Tunisia is notorious for locals hassling you to buy their wares, and I was aware of this when on the first day, a guy came over trying to sell tours. He was a good guy and very protective of the hotel's guests. As such, if you want a trip out do not worry about booking through him as opposed to a rep. If you are after a cheap and cheerful holiday for the family, you won't be disappointed.
