Just got back from this hotel and there are a few points to be made.
The rooms are kept clean by the cleaning staff who are good at what they do.
The staff in general are OK but more of that in bad points listed below.
The pool is nice and there are always plenty of sunbeds and fixed parasols.
If you go 'all Inclusive' the local produced drinks are quite acceptable
Bad points (and there are quite a few)
Don't accept any rooms on the first floor overlooking the garden...you will not see it as there is a 5ft high wall 6ft away from your balcony wall. The resulting space in front of you is a wasteland filled with rubble, tins, paper bags, empty cigarette packets and assorted rubbish....complain and you WILL be given another room.
If you are from the UK you will not be getting any welcome or greeting from anyone as the reception area is manned by 2 Tunisian people who are very curt and will only serve you once all other Muslim guests have been attended to.
The bar is manned by a Manager and Undermanager who quite frankly are extremely rude to all women. If you are a man you are probably OK, but don't take any backchat, they WILL back down if you stand your ground. The Undermanager (a very overweight guy) actually shouted in my partners face that drinks are not allowed in your room when in fact she was buying them to take out to the beach (which is allowed).
Do not go with a company called Just Sunshine.....that is all you will get. What you will not get is a welcome envelope that is promised by the rep on the transfer coach that is supposed to be left at the hotel reception. As you don't get this you will not be in a position to phone the rep as his number is in the envelope. You will not see the rep as he doesn't appear all week, the receptionist will tell you that they have never actually seen him.
Food: If you don't like chicken then your in trouble. Having said that there is spaghetti bolognaise, cheeses that taste like lard, salads, soup (actually quite good most days) other stuff that I wouldn't even try...and I'm quite experimental, very limited cerials at breafast (actually one item) and water melon and dates.
40% of the guests live within 300 miles of the hotel, 30% are Russian, 20% are German, 10% are from China and other places....of 600 guests we were the only English people.
The rooms are furnished to a reasonable standard with an in room safe in the waredrobe. The 2 single beds are large enough for anybody (I'm 6'3"). All rooms had very good air conditioning.
The Medina is interesting but a filthy market area to visit. (I've been to the Grand Market in Istanbul twice so I have a yardstick to go by). Beware, you will get a load of people approaching you pretending to know you from the hotel....they dont. They know that the armband you are wearing is from the hotel. They will offer to show you the best 'bargains' and will request money from you for their 'service'. If you see something you want and they ask 50 dinar, offer 20 and they will settle on 30. If you go on any of the Galleon ships in the harbour dont pay any more than 25 dinar for two people. Don't eat the food on the ships, we saw the 'chef' trying out the fish with his fingers in the cooking pan before even washing his hands.
Don't bother with buses, the taxis are VERY VERY inexpensive. 6 dinar (about £2.50) will take you about 5 miles....thats enough to get you into town from your hotel.
Tip everybody!!! a 5 dinar coin to the bar staff every evening was eagerly accepted as was 20 dinar to the cleaning lady at the start of the week.
That just about it....but remember....don't go with Sunshine Holidays. We also heard from others on the return flight home that there are much better hotels around.
