We really enjoyed our recent two week stay at Marhaba Beach hotel and overall I would say that it is a good hotel with plus points equivalent to a five star hotel and negative points more like a 3 star hotel. On a positive note the room was a refurbished room on the fourth floor with a seaview and was a pleasant room to spend time in. It was fitted out with new twin beds, a fridge and flat screen TV(athough channels were limited). The rooms were cleaned daily as well as bedding and towels being changed.
The staff are extremely obliging and friendly and whilst tips are appreciated by the staff it does not seem to be expected by most individuals.
The pool area is well maintained and the pool is very clean, although in March it was rather too cold to swim. Drinks at the pool were provided in glasses rather than plastic cups as often happens in other hotels. The food was rather limited in choice, although it was always hot and well presented.Breakfast was average at best. If you prefer to eat alone or as a family it is best to address this on your first visit to the restaurant as you will already have been allocated a table that may well be with other guests. You may have to tip the restaurant manager to be sure of getting your own table.
There is a small bar area for smokers which is very pleasant although the bar stools must be the most uncomfortable I have ever encountered. The main saloon/cabaret bar hosts the nightly shows and there is an area around the actual bar with large seats which also accommodates smokers Unfortunately these seats are rather tired and unsteady and really should be replaced. Another problem is that the pool table has been badly placed next to this area and I can only see it is a matter of time before someone ends up with a cue in their eye. It also sometimes resulted in a little boisterous banter between players which I do not think was well received by guests and staff alike. From a personal point of view we were a little disappointed that you cannot get a drink in the hotel after midnight even if you are willing to purchase it, although you can buy them prior to twelve o'clock cut off and consume them in the lobby or your room. The Maurish cafe is a pleasant area where you can try the shisha pipes or just enjoy a quiet drink. In an honest assessment of this hotel I would say that overall it is good value for money and that some of my critiscism is more to do with our personal preferences rather than this being a bad hotel. In my opinion it is the staff who give this hotel the good reputation that it has on trip advisor and that the Company should look to improve some of the tired furnishings and enhance the food choices in order to restore it to the five star level that it enjoyed many years ago.But I expect the prices would then go up.
