“beautiful hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

my hubby and i was really impressed with hotel it was spotless the food was good . i really would defy anyone who could not find something to eat.We always ended up with the four different ice creams. The staff were lovely and friendly and would do anything for you.Being all inclusive i was not sure which way to tip people,i would suggest that you tip everyone you want to tip on the last day as we tipped on a daily basis and it cost us a lot.The bad thing i could say out this hotel is that as much as the drink tasted of drink i think it was non alcholic because i never seen anyone drunk no matter what they drank, maybe a good thing lol.I would get a bottle out of duty free.If you could take a few minutures of whisky that is better than any tip.The Tunisians would break your arm for whisky as it cost a fortune there. We walked into Sousse as we love walking or you can get a bus or taxi. The taxi will cost ou about 5 dinar but be careful everyone is out to scam you orthey will stand with hands out looking for money.Be careful in the madina there a lot of jewellery shops if you are looking for something make sure it is gold.I am not easily taken but i was taken in by 30 pounds.Loved the beach but it was covered with jelly fish.Loved this hotel and would recomend it but i can honestly say been to Tunisia dont think i would go back seen it done it that it .On a lasting note between Sousse and the hotel there a couple of nice shopping centres. For those who like gettin.g up early in the morning there are roosters who will wake you up about 5 o,clock in the morning

Room Tip: If you ask for a room at the front of the hottel it might be quieter as the salem is being refurbish...

ok. we went in march but it was our 8th visit to tunisia, and it was warm and sunny (go get a tan).
the hotel was beautiful, the staff in the restaurant and bar were amazing, the chambermaid kept our room pristine and deserved the tip we left her.
the food was the best we have ever eaten in an all inclusive hotel in Tunisia, but even if you prefer a more westernised diet you wont starve because there is something for evryone. The girl cooking the omelettes and eggs in the morning at breakfast deserved a mention, they were perfect!!
Downside,
their animation entertainment team were diabolical, unprofessional and amateur. the only reason we didnt give the Salem a five star excellent.
Sousse has become hard work, they are after every penny you have , and if you are not prepared to "deal with the hassle " beware.
Taxi to sousse or kantoui agree on five dinar, any more walk away!!
The hotel cares for its gardens, its cats, its beaches and its holidaymakers, if you want to kick back and relax its an ideal place to go!!

This hotel was lovely! The staff were amazingly friendly and will bend over backwards to help/entertain you, they're great with kids.
The outside pools are cold but we did visit in March, the indoor one is lovely and warm with jaccuzzi and spa, and the little hair dressers/beauticians is great and good value for money!
Our room was great and always cleaned up by the time we came in from the beach which is a 2 minute walk through the well kept gardens.
The wireless reached our room so that was handy, the tv is all foreign but thats not what you go on holiday for is it?!
We found there to be just the right mix of nationalities here and everybody got on well, there was a good selection of food, but there are some ace resaurants around. Try Le Mediteranean in Port el Kantoui -definatley the best steaks we've ever had, with lovely local starters and fresh seafood!
Make sure to haggle in the Medina as there are bargains to be had and tip everyone as a dinar goes a long way!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view!

Stayed for 3 nights in a double room on the 3rd floor of the main building and have nothing to complain about. We were taken straight up to our room when we arrived (even though we were early) and it was spacious and clean. Although we had a double room the bed was made up as 2 singles, but that was easy to change. There was also a spare bed. The room had aircon/heating which worked well and you could adjust the temperature as needed. The shower was warm and the room was cleaned daily.

We had breakfast included in our stay, which was in the form of a help yourself buffet. There was a wide selection of pastries, bread, salad/meats/cheese, fruit, cooked eggs, sausages, pancakes (made while you wait), cereals, tea, coffee, fresh juice etc.

There was a half board and all inclusive option, but we didn't eat lunch or dinner at the hotel. Instead in the evenings we walked 5-10mins towards town turning right at the first big roundabout to a road with lots of restaurants. The further up you go the more traditional/local the restaurants become.

Only downside to the hotel was the distance from town, but if you don't mind walking it pretty much a straight road to the centre of town (30min walk) and not more than 3dinar for a taxi.

Would recommend visiting El Jem. There are plenty of organised tours and the hotel staff can book one for you, but we decided to make our own way there. This is easy enough by getting a taxi to the louage station where a one way ticket costs about 4dinar and takes an hour.

Room Tip: the main building

just got home tonight the 27 feb got a bargain price of 475 for 2 adults 2 children half board for a week, hotel first impressions very nice, bit of a confusion about our rooms apparently the hotel has no family superior rooms which is basically 2 rooms with a adjoining door, so we were given initially 278 and 277 its a very long and dark and dingy walk from hotel down steps through snack bar up some more steps through to a building and then eventually our rooms as we were walking with the porters a few people were complaining about rooms not being ready, got into 278 seemed ok nothing spectacular but clean 277 however we werent allowed to see as it wasnt ready so this left us a room with 3 beds for one night, fortunately my daughter opened the door next to her bed thinking it was a wardrobe and low and behold it was another room so we were going to have complete strangers next to us with a adjoining door, any case a bit of a tantrum later ad we managed to get room 278 and 279 with adjoining door, electrics were a bit dodgy in 278 mirror was broke in 279 hairdryer was also broke in 279 but it was clean it smelt nice sheets were imaculate beds were very comfy quilts too, view of hotel grounds were ok will be nice in the summer but the gardeners work very hard at the grounds and do a very good job of keeping it clean and tidy, right now reception 3 days i tried to upgrade to all inclusive kept getting told they had no wrist bands or too come back in a few hours i gave up after day 3, food in the hotel was nice breakfast always pancakes eggs omelettes donut things cooked in front of you nothing i could complain about, food on a night was fine the tunisian food was lovely and set away from the rest of the food but it was really tasty, theres security in the hotel our security were very pleasant and often seemed to have their own little party on a night and make more noise than the guests but i did feel very safe with them being there, the weather wasnt too good when we were there so not a lot too do, the entertainment staff seemed to be ok entertainment on a night was a bit lame but we went out of season so its too be expected, the indoor swimming pool is nice and warm and the whirlpool is a bonus sauna was nice, hairdressers omg 20 dinar for my son to look like hes had a basin put on his head lol but really nice lady, the bar staff went from one extreme to the other very helpful and polite and friendly to having faces that could kill and not a word said, i found it strange also that some people had their drinks took to them and others didnt yesterday a very old gentlean was expected to carry 2 cups of coffee my husband had to help him whilst the bar staff watched, it was nothing to do with tips either as we tipped and it did nothing a lot of other people did the same it was basically to do with if they could be bothered, beach was ok out of season so wasnt expecting much you get people on the beach selling stuff but i sat down and talked to the cigarette man and he was lovely i dont smoke so i gave him a few dinar which he was very grateful of but we chatted for a while lovely man he is so if you do go please dont give him a hard time hes just trying to make a living at the end of the day, the hotel is probablies lovely in season, just we went out of season and there was building work being done but its a ok hotel something happened on our last night were a woman was beat up by some tunisian guy the hotel staff didnt seem that interested and just said married they will sort it and left it so that wasnt too good, port el kantoie lovely sousse hmm never had a problem before always had a bit banter but this year seemed different the whole place feels on edge, theres more police this year than i have ever seen before riding on quads stopping cars etc my husband got locked in a shop for his own safety but i do feel the shop keeper was being paranoid as he locked my husband in locked me and my 2 children out but there were lots of youths on bikes flying up anf down the road i just took loads of picture s any case end of day ok hotel cleaners are excellent my waiter was lovely probablies the best waiter i have ever had in tunisia would i go back to marhaba royal salem erm probablies in season and id be all inclusive as bar staff forgot to give me change on more than one occasion oh and 2 of them tried selling me bhouka and cedrat at a bargain price of 60 dinar but its cheaper in the airport so our little secret was a no no love tunisia this year id probablies not go back till after the goverment issues has been sorted but id go back to this hotel again but would have to be in peak season as it was very very boring out of season

Room Tip: the rooms in the actual hotel are a lot nicer than in the bungalow blocks also in the hotel you get...
