Travelled here with my mum on the 11th October for 7 nights and I can honestly say that we were scared stiff about going due to the disgusting recent reviews this hotel has received, we actually rang up and tried to get the hotel changed but due to late notice it wasn't possible. However, for the fantastic price we paid for a week all inclusive we decided to go completely open minded and to see some sunshine.
We arrived mid morning and check-in was great, extremely fast and the reception staff were lovely. Having recently read the awful reviews about how receiving a room with a key automatically makes your stay the 'holiday from hell' our hearts sank a little when that's what we were given, we automatically asked to be moved to a 'swipe card' room as advised by other reviewers but were told there was none available and wouldn't be until first thing in the morning. We walked along with the porter to the 3rd floor absolutely dreading what we were about to see... And we were pleasantly surprised! The room was huge, 3 single beds, loads of wardrobe space, mirrors, plug sockets, a fridge, and a balcony with gorgeous views of both the sea and pool and to make it even better it was spotless! Yes the bathroom could have done with a refurb and some modern day decor but it was clean, the shower was extremely powerful and remained the same temperature throughout which I haven't experienced in many other hotels. We decided that we would leave our stuff in suitcases because if these 'swipe card' rooms were as amazing as they have been said to be then we wanted one! First thing next morning we went to reception and true to his word the man on reception gave us a swipe card and told us to go and have a look... The room was EXACTLY the same as the one we were in other than the balcony had new chairs but a terrible view of a bush. Much much smaller, no new decor anywhere in the room so I honestly don't know what the refurb has been other than a different locking system on the door. We then asked if we could see other rooms as we thought we were being shoved off and the man said not a problem go and look in any other swipe card room and you will see they are no different and from speaking to other guests true to his word they aren't. The maid came every day, clean sheets, towels, etc.
Beautiful beach kept completely spotless, stays waist deep very far out, guys on the bar work extremely hard to keep the beach clean collecting the glasses and plates constantly. It's help yourself to a sunbed which I found much better as having previously stayed in Tunisia we had to ask and therefore felt obliged to have to tip. Loads of space.
Can't really comment on the pools as we only went once, the Marhaba hotel and club share 2 pools, one is the noisy with slides (great for kids) and the other is quiet with a swim up bar. Both lovely and clean, I saw lots of reviews moaning about it being slippy around the pool sides but what do people expect when it's water? We didn't see any accidents at all.
Absolutely lovely choice and selection, throughout the day you can eat at the restaurant, beach bar, or pool bar, all with a similar selection of food pizza, pasta, chips, lots of fresh salad. Breakfast was fresh croissants, cereal, fruit, lots of eggs... I heard a man shouting one morning 'where's the bacon mate?' If you come to a Muslim country for your holiday please have a bit of respect. Food was always hot, and fresh constantly being brought out right up until 9pm when dinner finished. They do need to get a better toaster as it was very slow and most people just gave up using it after the first day. We were assigned a table on the first night and sat there every single meal time with no problems at all.
Limited selection, basic spirits vodka, whisky, gin etc. Lovely wine and we found it extremely easy to get merry from drinking this. Never ran out of anything as mentioned in previous reviews. One thing I didn't like is how drinks were served in reusable plastic cups, literally rinsed under the tap. There wasn't any other alternative though other than to not drink anything so we just stuck to using straws.
The most friendly, hard working, and lovely staff I have ever come across. They ask for nothing other than manners and a smile, if you do that then you will get the same in return. Although we did regularly tip we never once felt under pressure to, although it does make a difference. With it being a third world country a couple of dinars here and there can really go a long way and for there great service we felt it was only fair.
You pay for a 3* hotel so I don't understand why people expect 5* service. You aren't going to get people walking round offering cold flannels on the hour, or a choice of 6 different restaurants in one hotel! But if you want some sun, and a reasonable priced holiday then I would definitely recommend the Hotel Marhaba.
