“what a dump stay away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

I can’t understand why people want to go back to this dump full of ignorant, rude and unwelcoming waiters & staff and that’s after tips, yes you have to tip on everything, the shower in your room is salt/chlorine water, the alcohol is non-alcoholic and they limit you on your drinks especially the diet coke, your sat at a table with strangers, you can’t get food when you want as it has set time for snacks all inclusive I think not, then there’s the smell this could be down to the open sewer which runs alongside the hotel, and the fact it looks like a rubbish tip due to litter and broken pathways the only saving grace for this holiday was the weather and the beach.
We arrive 1.30am and then had to fill out cards very similar to the ones they give you on the plane at the last minute visa/immigration status, this was ok for me and my husband but some families had small children who were tired and hot and a card had to be filled out for each child very upsetting to see as mums & dads just wanted to get their babies a cold drink then off to bed.
After the beautiful entrance lobby you are then taken to the lift and once out the lift it’s a maze of staircases and you are welcomed on to bright orange/red shabby threadbare carpet (careful you do not catch you foot), the guy who helped with our cases got us lost for 20 minutes in the end another man had to help.
Our room was dirty and shabby and the bathroom was dreadful very disappointing, we opened the patio doors to find a pine tree obstructing our view to make things worse it had two rats in it. We changed our room the next morning and were sent to the neighbouring hotel the Marhaba Club (On the same complex) room was much better, top tip sleep with light on as it was on the ground level and it had cockroaches.
You can use both complexes throughout your stay meaning you can eat at each hotel restaurants, food was not good believe me, they cater for the French, Russians, Dutch, Germans need I go on, what you didn’t eat on the evening you got for breakfast and so on this was for all the meals.
I cannot comment on the entertainment as we ventured out (still not that exciting), but when returning most guests were sat in the lobby playing cards or on their I pad, or mobiles so I think that sums that up.
Do not take a trip out with the guy at the beach who sells excursions the one who is very pushy and lies in wait sat on his chair under the tree, lies, lies all lies what a con man, he sent us on the pirate ship Hannibal it’s a wreck disgusting, the food was inedible and 10 dinars for a drink and not to mention intimidating staff.
Do not go to the medina on your own it’s a rats warren full of alleyways the people are rude and frightening and con men dragging you into their stalls, some try to help and lead you out of the medina only for them to take you deeper into the maze and get you lost throughout the streets, then they threaten you and want your money (this happened to us) be warned.
The harbour at port el kantaoui, well you make your own minds up.
Please check your insurance, we had the gold insurance plus I pay extra to the medical screening due to illness, Thomas Cook are the only agents who do not have a doctor for their customers within Tunisia as told by our rep you have to pay for a doctor then pay again to see him then pay again for treatment, then pay for medication if needed. I was stung badly by a jellyfish for the first time and did not know what to do and this is how we found out about the doctor’s fees.
I have been and visited some beautiful places and stayed in some wonderful hotels and not so wonderful, but this has been the worst holiday ever I have experienced.
Marhaba Hotel & Marhaba Club Tunisia Sousse, stay away.

Room Tip: ask for room on higher floors due to cockroaches rooms at the Marhaba club are less shabby

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Marhaba Hotel, we enjoyed our stay but would not return.
Value for money was good, and we got what we paid for if you want 5 star facilities and service then pay extra and stay somewhere else. Arrival wqs quick and easy, check in smooth etc. The hotel is very tired in places, some rooms have been done up and are nice we however had an old room!!! It was plenty big enough for 3 , loads of hot water and very clean but very very old, paint peeling and furniture worn out but as we didnt pay a lot i didnt mind.
Plus points- lovely beach and sea, great staff especially if you tip them, plenty of food to choose from how anyone couldnt find something to eat is beyond me.
Negative points- rooms, drinks were very watered down but the beer was nice, music very very loud until 12 at night so dont even think about an early night, food sometimes not very hot but a microwave is available, some of the chefs uniforms were filthy and put me off a bit, entertainment was ok they do try hard.
All in all we had a good holiday, weather was awesome and a little tip now and again gets you great service, if your after a cheap and lively all inclusive then go ahead and book.
Tips- be firm with the pirate boqt , camel trip people etc and they will soon get bored of asking everyday :-) water in big bottles available from the bar after 7pm, good food and drinks on the beach a tip everyday meant we didnt have to move to get drinks

Just stayed here (myself, husband and baby) for 1 night prior to our 2 week stay in the neighbouring Hotel Marhaba Beach. We had added an extra night onto our holiday and thought we'd try the Marhaba as we have stayed in others in the complex (Marhaba Club & Tour Khalef). We arrived at lunch time, we were given a room on the 3rd floor however it was at the other side of the hotel meaning we had the lift upto the 3rd floor and 4 sections of stairs after that to our room, given we have a baby this wasn't easy at all with pushchair. However we did not feel it necessary to complain as we were only there for the one night (thankfully), however there were other guests obviously staying longer in these rooms which appeared to be of a low standard compared to other rooms (majority of rooms had key cards where as the rooms on the right side of the hotel we old doors with keys) the corridor carpets were also in a bit of an old state in comparison to the tiled corridors filing the rest of the hotel, it is a shame for the people staying in these rooms as as far as I understand there is not a variation in room grades and prices. Other than that the room was clean, basic, shower over the bath was rather old and I felt the balcony wall was a bit on the low side so be weary if you have Children.

The hotel has recently been modernised, the reception area is very nice on the eye with the bundles of leather sofas and seating areas. The bar is very basic and it is more or less in the reception area not separated.

We had afternoon snacks on the pool side (the was a choice of spaghetti bolognese or rice), there was plenty tables and chairs to sit down at however there is not much space around the pool itself so the sun beds do get used up very quickly.

The grounds of the hotel are not as well kept as the neighbouring hotels within the same complex.

There was quite a wide choice of food at dinner. Breakfast was same as other Tunisian hotels.

Personally we would not stop in this hotel again, that is purely because it does not come close in comparison with the M. Beach hotel in the complex. I don't feel it would take too much for improvisation.

Hotel Marhaba I suggest that you increase the area around your swimming pools to accommodate near to the number of guests that your hotel holds. The grounds need to be tidied up and grass laid in the dusty soil areas as this would perhaps be nice for some more sun beds. As for the 3rd class rooms, either do them up or charge a lower rate to stay in these rooms, and adding a small slope at the side of the stairs for luggage and pushchairs would be good idea in this part of the hotel.

this is the first time ive reviewed a holiday but thought i should. firstly i should say do not go to tunisia with teenage girls. the hotel and grounds were lovely clean and good location, the staff were generally really good apart from the cleaner who stole my daughters bag on the last day, she did bring it back for me in a taxi that i had to pay both ways for. the food was varied and really good although on occasions i didnt eat thats down to me being particular not the quality of food. the main problems we had was off the complex our girls of 16 and 19 felt really unsafe, i can understand men looking, but on the one time they went into a shop, the owner asked them to come back for drinks and sex when he finished fasting that day, on another time in another store the shop worker touched my daughters legs right in front of me, when i told him to stop he said he was playing a trick and was 68 years old so that made it ok i would have kicked off if it wasnt for the thought of being locked up for daring to complain. so much for being practicing muslims, i would call them perverts. another problem was passport control we waited for ages when we eventually got to the front the guy wiped his mouth and nose with his hand then wiped it all over my passport on purpose while scouling at me. then it was people grabbing your bags from your hands and demanding money to take to your transport, this went on all holiday, constantly being hasled for money. overall lovely hotel shame about the people outside it

Room Tip: we got rooms 134 and 133 they smelled bad and were full of ants when we complained they moved us to...

I stayed here with my parents and my brother, and I must say, I am extremely impressed. The animation team were fantastic, especially Bobo, Mido and Sousou. All the animation team were friendly and would sit with you and have a chat even though they work 15 hours a day, 6 days a week AND we went while all the staff were on Ramadan. There were lots of different activities to participate in such as archery, water polo, aqua aerobics etc, and also a kids club for young children. Entertainment in the evenings was also very good. A variety of acts. The animation team did Grease and Mama Mia, and there was also karaoke, Mr and Miss hotel, fire eaters and many more.

We stayed in the old area of the hotel which didn't have very good reviews, however it wasn't that bad. Slightly run down, however was located right next to the pool area so wasn't far to walk to get down to it. The pool itself was lovely. The pool side bar staff were friendly and always making conversation. The beach was about a 2 minute walk from the pool. Was lovely. Just be careful when entering the sea and in the strip outside the assigned beach area for the hotel. You WILL get pestered by people selling items.

Yet again, when it came to the restaurant staff were friendly, and with assigned tables you have the same waiter for your entire stay. There was a variety of food, and something for everyone. There is a different theme almost every night, such as mexican, tunisian and english. Even if these foods dont suite your taste they ALWAYS have pizza and chips. Food is also provided pool side at lunch time, which is handy if you want something quick, as well as also being provided at the beach bar.

All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel for both older and younger family groups.

Room Tip: Refurbed rooms are closer to reception and to the restaurant, however the older rooms are located cl...

We Arrived at this hotel for one night only before moving to the Marhaba Beach, this was only due to the flight booking we made separately.
We were are on the 3rd floor and it wasn't the easiest room to find, although we did appreciate that for one night we weren't going to have the best of rooms. My daughter was travelling with us and ŵe had terrible problems with hr pushchair, as we came out of the lift and had to then walk up and down stairs to the room, about 4 flights.
The room was very basic, and dark.
The communal areas were fairly good, the region area clean and staff polite, the pool was good
Although seemed a bit bunched together.
It is not a hotel I would return to due to the bland accommodation the bland white corridors with white tiled floors very clinical, and due to the split level of the hotel and all the stairs.

Room Tip: Please make it clear if you have mobility problems or use a pushchair, as the lifts are not sufficie...
