Owner description: Resembling an imposing castle fortress, this citadel was built in the 1480s by Sultan Qaitbey on the site of the Pharos Lighthouse, to protect the city from the crusaders who used to attack the city by sea.

“Nice spot in Alex”

What I like most about the Fort is that it looks like it was painted yesterday. It looks so clean and is spectacular during sunset, too. There's always a nice breeze around here and I enjoy to just go sit and do people watching.

“Photo Op for Pictures of Coastline”

During our tour of Alexandria, the bus stopped at the recently refurbished 15th century Qait Bey Fort on the Mediterranean Sea. This area was considerably cleaner than places that we passed by. The fort was built on the original site of the Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Disappointingly, it was not open to the public.

Our stop was brief. Just a few moments take pictures. There wasn't anything to do other than take a few pictures and be hounded by people trying to sell us cheap souvenirs.

“Great History, Avoid Fake Tour Guides”

The place is awesome with lots of history but the only problem with it are people who pose as tour guides & offer made up historical info, annoying people trying to sell you cheap souvenirs for way too much money ..

“Nice location”

Its at a very nice location but there isnt much to see except for the sea. Light house is nearby but cant go there.

“Nice but much is rebuilt”

Well once you have got past all the young couples there is some very nice areas. Some great arty photos to be had look through the openings. Lots of guards trying to swop Euros for money.
They claim one stone is from the old lighthouse. Looking at it you would never know. A lot of this place has been rebuilt as the British blew up this fort in the 1900's
So enjoy the views
