“Awesome remnants of ancient times”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

It's a little peek into the remains of the Roman occupation of northern Egypt. Basically unregulated - you can roam throughout the site.

“Just a pillar”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

The pillar with the sphinxes are a great view but nothing beyond that, repent spending money for entering the complex !! Recommend just stopping by and seeing it from outside as nothing much to offer at the excavation site.

“ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

The pillar itself and the sphinxes beside it are impressive. The rest of the complex less so. You can make a quick stop here.

“Great column, great tunnels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

Again they have place objects not from Alex here. The sphinxes need to be placed elsewhere.
Part of the fun was getting here. We thought the taxi driver was taking us somewhere to rob us but looking at the city was very good. The column is just that but it is 30m high. They have started to find tunnels which you can go into two of them very interesting.

“Amazing height!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

The pillar is very tall, and in good shape. The entire area has a good walk way around it, with low steps on a grade. The ground is uneven when you go into the underground "temple" remains where the replique of an Apis bull is located at the end of a hallway and many steps! Worth the look if you are fit!
The 2 sphinxes that flank the pillar are in pretty good shape too and there is the largest statue of the scarab beetle on the way to the exit.
Nice washrooms, take an egyptian pound!
Good postcards too
