“What a waste!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

There is nothing special about this erected pillar - what a waste of time coming here. It supposed to be one of the favourite landmarks in Alexandria but I think Nelson's Column is more interesting to look at and that is saying something

“Not related to Pompey”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

This Roman landmark with surrounding Sphinx should be credited to Diocletian. Worth a look from outside, nothing more.

“THEY say you must see it.... I could have skipped it..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

I was not impressed... but our guide said "You must see it.." I think I missed the significance of this site.. Its was a pillar in the middle of rubble with two broken sphinx's. We wandered around lots of broken pieces of stone. Our guide pointed out Greek, Egyptian and Christian carvings on broken stones.

Its close to other sights in the city so go if its easy... but i Don't think its worth the trip alone.

Bring a camera.. Good souvenir shops here if you are looking.

“Might be more interesting if I were a archeologist”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

The site was not as impressive as pyramids. It does reflect the Roman influence in the area. Some bits were interesting but generally not quite. The underground structure which was built with sandstone was intriguing. I was wondering how long it is going to last. The story about the pillar was worth listening but I couldn't say that you need to see the pillar by your own eyes.

“The Pillar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Good to see the Roman influence and the visit underground to the library is worth the visit. Make sure you see 'the bull'!
