“Take note”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2010

I visited in August 2010 and would just like to add that taking photographs is no longer allowed inside the museum.

“Good museum in Alexandria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2008

I visited this museum in May 2008, having found the Jewellery Museum and Graeco-Romano Museum both closed for renovation. The museum is in a beautifully restored villa and contains an interesting collection from Alexandria and all over Egypt.
It can be a little difficult to work out the best route to take through the rooms, but since all the exhibits are clearly labelled it is not a big problem.
The gardens are also a nice place to sit and relax.

“A different kind of museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2008

Located at the beginning of Fouad Street, this Museum is fairly easy to get to.

Entrance fees:
Tourists: 30 LE
Tourist students: 15 LE
Egyptians : 2LE
Egyptian Students: 1LE

The museum is situated in an old villa - which is worth a look in it's own right. The carved wooden panels and the fireplaces give a hint of the grandeur that was. The museum is divided into 3 main floors. Entrance is at the ground floor into the Graeco-Roman Collection, The Pharaonic collection is on the basement floor with a 'tomb' reproduction in the cellar. The upper floor is dedicated to Islamic and Coptic artefacts.
The division into the separate floors is nice - and enables visitors to see different periods set together. The majority of the pieces are well lit but it can be a bit difficult to read the labels due to the light. The floor plan is a bit confusing, I was never sure if I was still in the museum or if I had wandered off into administrative areas. Cameras are allowed in this museum - although the dim lighting may make it hard to get decent photographs.

There are toilets and a small souvenir shop inside the museum.
