“Traditional cafe and restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

we come here everytime we're in Alexandria and if the weather allows it we sit outside facing the sea and Saad Zaghloul statue. A traditional cafe since 1922 that makes the best cakes and sweets in Alexandria . The friendly waitors and the internal decoration are a shade of the belle epoque when Alexandria really was the pearl of the mediteranian. The restaurant serves italian and french food and is a bit dark but cosy. Toilets are always clean and service is excellent.

“Taste of old Alexandria”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

It is very authentic with lots of pictures of King Farouk, it's like you were sucked back in time to the old Alexandria in the early 1900s. It has been renovated yet kept it's uniqueness. Delicious desserts, I loved their apple pie.

“Unexpected and accomplished.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

Another wonderfully unexpected surprise in the very French-influenced city of Alexandria. Relatively untouched by tourists, the city as a whole provides some welcome respite from the more in-your-face aggression of Egypt's southern cities, and Délicés is a perfect example of this. Fantastically well-appointed sweets are serve in the main dining hall by dedicatedly European-styled staff; take away is available, but we sat every one of our visits, having been lured by the marvels in their glass display cases. Prices for slices and cakes sit around £7 LE, or $1 Aus/US; the generous tarts push the £12 mark. (If you're feeling decadent, grab a cake or £100 - $15 Aus/US!). All are surprisingly mild for the sweet-loving Egyptian palette, so you can scoff a plateful without the sugar-high. The attached restaurant, La Veranda, serves an exquisite lunch/dinner in a seperate dining room; prices range from £30 - £60, French-Greek style, very generous serves. The tomato soup was the best I've ever eaten, with other favourites including the mushroom penne an California salad. All in all, an unmissable, imminently affordable treat!

“a great potential...but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

This place has a great pastry. All cakes are delicious as they use the old classic receipes. The Location is great but the place is not well decorated and maintained. They renovated only one side - the unnecessary one (at the casher and cakes fridges) , but the hall-where people sit to have something- is old, dusty needs renovation. I understood the owner lacks money, however, some budget decoration may completely change the place (new paint, some family photos on the walls, good tables and chairs, good cleaning of everything, more attention to details). Alexandria is a very cheap place to buy furniture (old or new) and decorations for almost peanuts...what needs is some tastes and an open mind.
