My husband and I enjoyed delicious dinners at Stefano on one chilly Alexandria winter evening. We are both vegetarians, so were very pleased to see that Stefano's offers sufficient appropriate choices for us to be able to have a delightful meal (Vegetarians know to scour the entire menu and ask good questions to find their best options.) The hand-made cannelloni pasta, filled with spinach and cheese, was especially delectable. Every part of our meal was prepared perfectly and beautifully presented.
Service was exceptional - attentive but not intrusive. We live in Alexandria, so have become used to the Egyptian preference to having to ask for waiters' attention; it is nice to sometimes have the sort of service to which many Westerners are more accustomed.
Stefano's is expensive, by Egyptian standards, but very fairly priced for what is essentially an elegant European or American dining experience. It should measure up to anyone's standards for a nice splurge.
The only drawback to this restaurant is that, despite its seaside location, it has no view of the Mediterranean. In nice weather that can be remedied by having before-dinner drinks or appetizers at Bleu, the hotel's same-floor bar overlooking the sea. The restaurant and hotel are both beautifully decorated, and there are many opportunities to admire the sea in public areas.
