“Some potential...but not quite right”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

As an alternative to sleeping in tiny bunks aboard the small yacht in which we had just arrived from Gibraltar - the temperature was well into the 40's! - we chose to stay for just 1 night at the Kabila.
Situated right on the long, sandy beach, the location is great and the pool area was lovely - but it could have done with a cleaner on duty to clear up the general 'detritus' - glasses and plates etc - after the sunbathers had retired to their rooms. The grounds also had a lot of potential but the gardening team clearly needs some direction and the buildings themselves were also in need of some TLC - which is not at all unusual in Morocco. Decor in the bar was the highlight - although we waited almost 10 minutes to be served - and the reception area was also pleasant enough. Staff were very friendly and tried hard to be helpful, but they spoke very little English - however, you can manage if you have reasonable French or, as in our case, Spanish.
We decided to try the hotel restaurant for dinner and, once again, it was in need of some supervisory attention with piles of crockery and glassware on almost every tabel as we went in to eat - and it was only 7.30pm. The tagines we ordered were OK and good value at around €10 each, but the wine was pricey at €28 a bottle - especially when we are used to paying around €8-10 in Spain. Our bedroom was very clean, with comfy beds, TV and powerful, efficient AC - vital here in mid-August - while the ensuite bathroom was modern, had been carefully cleaned and was considerably better than expected!
Overall, the Kabila exceeded our expectations for hotels in Morocco but, despite their best efforts - and it was Ramadan if that should make any difference - it is definitely not 4-star quality. However, it offered reasonable value for money and on a similar trip we would consider staying there again, although there is an option closer to the marina, the Marina Smir, which looked like it might be worth a try - and would include the chance to try the restaurants in the marina area.

Room Tip: The rooms are all located on 2-levels around the swimming pool, well away from the main road, so the...

There was a blood stained matress propped up outside my door for 24 hours. The door of the washroom was nearly impossible to open and when opened, it produced a deafening grating screech. The shower curtain was quite dirty. There was no air conditioning in the rooms, the porter suggested that we open the balcony door and told us there were no mosquitos, however, there were many. The restaurant staff was attentive, however, we were brought a tagine with a piece of plastic in it.

On my way to MOROCCO from Spain, I discovered a very nice beach resort between Tetouan and the spanish border town of CEUTA. One hour from Tangier airport, great security, huge green park and beautiful beach (several miles sandy beach), marina with shops and restaurants. I was there in 2009 and back in October of 2010. The hotel had undergone extensive renovation. New pool deck, redecorated rooms with Flat screen TV
(CNN was on !). Very decent restaurant, but avoid room service (very slow).Staff is warm and friendly but few speak English (French and Spanish are the local languages) Not all rooms are air-conditioned but during my second trip installation was underway. Overall a nice spot in a gorgeous part of Morocco
