As an alternative to sleeping in tiny bunks aboard the small yacht in which we had just arrived from Gibraltar - the temperature was well into the 40's! - we chose to stay for just 1 night at the Kabila.
Situated right on the long, sandy beach, the location is great and the pool area was lovely - but it could have done with a cleaner on duty to clear up the general 'detritus' - glasses and plates etc - after the sunbathers had retired to their rooms. The grounds also had a lot of potential but the gardening team clearly needs some direction and the buildings themselves were also in need of some TLC - which is not at all unusual in Morocco. Decor in the bar was the highlight - although we waited almost 10 minutes to be served - and the reception area was also pleasant enough. Staff were very friendly and tried hard to be helpful, but they spoke very little English - however, you can manage if you have reasonable French or, as in our case, Spanish.
We decided to try the hotel restaurant for dinner and, once again, it was in need of some supervisory attention with piles of crockery and glassware on almost every tabel as we went in to eat - and it was only 7.30pm. The tagines we ordered were OK and good value at around €10 each, but the wine was pricey at €28 a bottle - especially when we are used to paying around €8-10 in Spain. Our bedroom was very clean, with comfy beds, TV and powerful, efficient AC - vital here in mid-August - while the ensuite bathroom was modern, had been carefully cleaned and was considerably better than expected!
Overall, the Kabila exceeded our expectations for hotels in Morocco but, despite their best efforts - and it was Ramadan if that should make any difference - it is definitely not 4-star quality. However, it offered reasonable value for money and on a similar trip we would consider staying there again, although there is an option closer to the marina, the Marina Smir, which looked like it might be worth a try - and would include the chance to try the restaurants in the marina area.
