My 9 year old son and I stayed at the Alpin for one week on Jan 14th 2006. From the Xmas decorations that welcomed us in the lobby (they were finally taken down during our stay ), the log fire and the pianist, the hotel was welcoming as soon as you walked in with a very cosy feel. A bit too cosy at times for me as the heating was turned up a bit too high , it was however welcome when the weather turned a lot colder at the end of the week. We were serenaded at dinner each evening and the musicians were excellent, although we did have a "pub singer" join them on a couple of occasions this was thankfully not the norm. The food was interesting but being a vegetarian it was never going to be easy with the food choices. I can heartily recommemd the soups they served each night.
The pool felt a little cool but this may have been due to the heat in the rest of the hotel, the massage was good and cheap and the rooms were immaculate. I felt the would have benefited from tea and coffee making facilities though.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
As for it's closeness to the slopes the Ski bus took about three minutes from hotel to slope and a lot of the time we chose to walk as it only took five to ten minutes and was quite pleasant.
Checking out was the most difficult aspect of the stay as their were errors on charges for the mini bar which the reception staff insisted we pay. I eventually took the items I was supposed to have drunk to reception to prove that I had not drunk them !! The staff in this instance were plain rude, but this was my only experience of this all week.
From brief glimpses of the other hotels in the resort I would say this was the best. We had a wonderful stay in the hotel and found the resort was great as well. Everyone was friendly and helpful and there was some nightlife ( more towards the end of the week)if you wished to venture out. We will definitely be going back.
