“Amazing history lesson in Sevastopol”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

I visited this as part of a Black Sea cruise excursion. I thought a museum was just a museum. It turned out to be a totally unique experience. The museum was quite unassuming on the outside. Once inside I was taken up to the second floor on an observation deck. The Panorama was a painting 450 ft. long and 45 ft. high that was put on the inside of a circular wall. In front was 36 ft. of life-size figures depicting a scene of the Crimean War at Sevastopol. One could not tell the boundary between the painting and the life size figures. For example, there was a horse-drawn carriage and the horse was painted on the wall but the carriage was a life-size one on the foreground. Photographs were allowed but I suggest you turn off your flash. After a 360 degree walk around, I was taken to the first floor where I could see the life-size figures through windows at "ground level". The who painting was very graphic and had a lot of detail. It gave one a good understanding what war was like back in the 1810's.

“Do not miss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

One of the most impressive attractions in the Crimea – you feel like you’re at the Battle itself. The way the painting has been integrated with real-life artifacts is extremely well done and I highly recommend visit to this museum if you're in Sevastopol. Of all the things I've seen on the Black Sea cruise this is a highlight. Having a tour guide explain all the details in the painting is a huge plus.

“Beautiful work of art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

This is a representation of the war in 3D. At the top you get to see the whole panoramic scene, and then down a level there are is focus on different sections of the panoramic art display with a short description in both English and Russian.
I did not get a guide, or the audio recording, I just viewed it as a piece of art, and it is very well done and worth seeing.
